TAGGART SUPPORT GIVES M’CULLOCH BIG LEAD IN RACE Democratic Politics Seethes as Leader Indorses Gubernatorial Candidate and Editors Boom Senator Samuel M. Ralston for President.

Democratic politics In Indiana was seething today as a result of two developments. 1. Indorsement by Thomas Taggart of Dr. Carleton B. McCulloch of Indianapolis as a candidate for the nomination for Governor. 3. Official launching of the Ralstonmovement by the Indiana Democratic Editorial Association. Taggart's announcement that he would support Dr. McCulloch exploded like a bomb among candidates attending the editorial banquet at the Claypool Thursday night. It had been reported for some time that Taggart would support Dr. McCJjilloch, but other candidates had repeatedly expressed the opinion that - Taggart would remain neutral. Great Advantage Admitted That the Taggart indorsement will benefit Dr. McCulloch immensely was admitted by friends of other candidates. The Taggart statement was issued from the Presbyterian Hospital at Chicago, where Taggart has been a patient. Immediately afterward, he left for Bermuda. He will return before the primary election in May. Besides Dr. McCulloch, announced candidates for Governor are Josehp M. Cravens. Madison; Dale J. Crlttenberger. Anderson; Charles S. Batt, Terre Haute, and George It. Durgan, Lafayette. Ovation for Ralston Word that Taggart had indorsed Dr. McCulloch spread through the banqueters while they were in the midst of frenzied aproval of 'the. action of the editorial association in indorsing Senator Samuel M. Ralston as a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President. Every mention of Ralston's name brought tho crowd to its feet amid cheers. Ralston let it be known he would not be averse to accepting the nomination, at the same time protesting that he Is not seeking it. “I had no idea the editors werb going to present that resolution," he said. Harding and requested that, President Coolidge appoint Frank C. Dailey, Indianapolis attorney, as a special prosecutor in the Teapot Dome case.
