Major Bosses Troubled by Holdouts —Important Conference Basket Garnet

ROOKIE PLAYERS IN MAJORITY OF GRIEVANCE CROP Dean, Wright, Lee andJVlay Among Number —Few Veterans Also, By HENRY L. FARRELL, NEW YORK, Feb. 15. —Six or seven holdouts in Brooklyn, at least nine with the Yankees, three or four around the Giants, two with the Cubs and a fe wwith practically every club in the big leagues have given the magntaes a crop of early spring trouble. It is an unusual feature that most of the holdouts asking for more money are young players coming up from the minor leagues. Four Giants Object Dean and Maun, two rookie pitchers, are among the few Giants who have not agreed to terms. They are in the company of Pep Young and Frank Snyder, veterans of the club. Dudley Lee. a high priced young short stop bought by the Boston Red Sox. has not signed and the Pirates have failed to submit satisfactory terms to Wright, another short stop from the minors. .Takie May, Pacific Coast pitcher who cost the Cincinnati Reds plenty of money, is refusing to sign a con tract until he gets part of the purchase money from the Vernon club owners. The Reds are in a tight place as the Vernon club did not guarantee to deliver May. Gave Roueli Argument Eddie Roush, star outfielder of the P.eds. is another holdout. The Reds have had to argue with him every' spring and they have not yet found the way to make their star feel satis lied. Johnny Jones, rookie, bought by the Brooklyn Robins and Burly ; Grimes, one of the mainstays of the pitching staff, have not acepied terms offered by Ebbets. H. S.
