BUZZARD TOLL IS IZ KNOWN DEAD, BJffIJOODAMAEE Chicago and Middle-West Still Crippled in Wire Service—Radio Is Used, By United Pre ' CHICAGO, Feb. 7.—With its lines of communication still badly crippled, the Middle-West today took stock of the damage wrought by the most destructive storm in years. While it is impossible to give an sccurate estimate on the damage, various authorities believe it will total around $5,000,000. Many hundreds of telephone and : elegraph repairmen fought huge snow drifts to repair the tens of thousands of miles of electric lines broken down by the storm. Thousands of telephone poles are down and it will be weeks 1 before normal facilities are restored. For two days northern Illinois, northern Indiana, Wisconsin, lowa, .Nebraska and portions of Minnesota ,od the Dakotas were practically isolated from the rest of the country. Chicago was cut off from the East. ■ xcept for a single strand of line mainained by the Western Union. Service on this line was limited and sub-ec-t to many hours' delay. Service between Chicago and Milwaukee was continuous because the yvires are underground. Wireless Meets Breakdown Wireless met the breakdown of wire facilities superbly. The United Press supplemented its rervice to clients in the storm area by broadcasting from KYW, the most powerful station in Chicago and one of the best stations In the country. In addition to serving its clients via wireless, the United Press served an ■nvisible audience of tens of thousands of persons who “tuned” in on KYW and heard United Press news dispatches relayed to its Chicago office from Indianapolis, which maintained limited service. Deaths Follow Storm Many deaths followed in the train j of the storm. MILWAUKEE, Wis., Feb. 7.—At least two Wisconsin cities isolated by he recent blizzard are facing food famine, according to meaker reports nto Milwaukee. These reports indicate both Reedille and Two Rivers, shut off from he outside world following the most evere blizzard in years, have about exhausted certain necessary supplies and are in danger of a food shortage. Uotary snow plows were attempting to crash through huge drifts in an effort to carry food and supplies to the Isolated cities. Firemen Name Candidates Six candidates for a trusteeship of the Firemen’s Pension Fund have been named. Election takes place Feb. 11. Candidates: Capt. Jesse Hutsell, retiring trustee;'Batallion Chief Fred C. Kennedy; Capt. Charles Britton, Capt. Arthur T. Rosemeyer, Lieut. John R. Miller and Private John Routier. Office is for four years. MAY FORM_CIVIC BODY Washington Township Leaders Propose Extensive Improvements. Morris St. for a boy about 12, who struck Charles Duffey, above address, with a piece of iron. Duffey had a cut over his eye# He told police he was returning from the house to the garage and as he entered was struck. The boy ran into the alley and escaped. Livestock Board Re-organized John W. Van Natta. Lafayette, is president of the State livestock sanitary board, succeeding R. C. Jenkins, Orleans, who resigned recently to become member of the Indiana board of agriculture. The board reorganized Wednesday.
