By careful calculation it is found there are forty-seven towns within a fifty-mile radius of Indianapolis that have a population of over 12,000 that have interurban service to this city or pavde roads. The idea was conceived by the management of the theater that business from these forty-seven towns could be greatly developed if the proper person went to these interurban cities and put before the public what was being given at the Shu-bert-Murat each week. Rosnagle travels entirely on the traction lines to the various forty-

seven cities with two or three exceptions, trying to make two or three towns a day and covering the circuit twice a month. The duties of the traveling representative are three-fold, the most important one being to arrange theater parties on special interurban theater cars for the attraction playing at the theater the coming week. He calls upon the traction representative in each town he visits and arranges a special theater fare of one and onehalf or one and one-quarter fare for the round trip. Best of all, he meets with the women’s clubs of the various cities and puts before them about the Murat attractions, not only telling them what plays are coming, but advising who is in the cast, prices, etc., and endeavors to get them to come in a body for the performance the follow-
TONS OF AWNINGS SNIPPED TO HI BT LOCAL FIRM Largest Hotel Contract in South Awarded Thorp Awning Shoppe, It Is not usual to think of putting up awnings and canopies by the ton, but the first shipment of awnings, j canopies and supports from Indianj apolis to Miami Beach, Fla., recently totaled more than seven tons. After I this original shipment, hundreds of [ pounds more of materials were shipped | by freight and express to complete one awning contract in the resort city. The contract was secured by the Thcrp Awning Shoppe, Inc., of 2407 College Ave., for the new Nautilus | Hotel, which was opeped on Jan. 15 |at Miami Beach. It was said to be the largest awning contract ever tilled j by an Indianapolis concern, and was completed under the personal direction of W. H. Thorp,* president of the awning company. Awning Covers Roof There were installed by Mr. Thorp 304 individual window awnings, all of attractive Venitlan style. Under Mr. Thorp's direction, two asventy-eight-foot stationary frames were erected over the long porches of the hotel. A roof garden canopy was installed measuring 21x40 feet and a thirty-eight-foot stationary frame was constructed for a covering over the roof dining room. A stationary round awning was constructed on the broad portico with a diameter of about fifty-six feet. A canopy fourteen feet wide and extending from the entrance of the hotel building down the beach to the bay, a distance of seventy-four feet was put in place. Five cottages on the Island, tl:e hotel, were equipped with special window awning. Thirty-five spread umbrellas were made for the tea garden, all being in fancy colors, stripes and artistic designs, some of them being hand colored. Twenty seat covers were made for the lawn benches and six umbrella beach tents were erected while Mr. Thorp was in Miami Beach. Tennis Courts Shaded Mr. Thorp also supervised the in.‘.tallationof fancy awnings at the boat landing and on the hotel tennis courts erected solid green backstops to shade he players from the glare of the sun. The flags and pennants for the hotel buildings also were furnished. The company Is anew firm in the city. Mr. Thorp was for twenty-one years connected with the Indianapolis Tent and Awning Company. WEATHERSTRIPS OF METAL IN DEMAND Apartment Builders Recognize Economy in Fuel Bills. Business of the Superior Weatherstrip and Window Frame Company was stimulated considerably by the recent zero weather and orders have been accumulating, H. S. Davis, in charge of the company, says. The organization has been making a specialty of metal weather strips which keep out cold and dirt, save fuel and render more healthful the inside atmosphere of homes and business' buildings. Every Spink apartment in the city, erected in recent years, has been equipped with Superior weather Strips. The Penn-Arts Bldg, at Sixteenth and Pennsylvania Sts., Is thus equipped throughout, as is the one now being built by the Spink company at Twentieth and Meridian Sts. The Giymt apartments at Eleventh and Illinois Sts. will have the protection of Superior weather strips and this same equipment Is contained in the specifications for the new Delaware Ouort apartment at Eleventh and Delaware Sts. The owners and builders of apartment buildings are finding that the cost of the weather strips Is saved in a short period by the saving effected In their fuel bills.

NEW SHOES ARE OLD Exhibits at Chicago Show Prove Models Were Worn by Cleopatra. Bu United News CHICAGO, Jan. 24. —There’s nothing new under the daughter. Os the 15,000 different styles and varieties of feminine footwear at the impending retail shoe exhibit, every one has two-stepped ’way back in the dead centuries. Exhibits prove that the very fanciest 1924 models were worn also by Cleopatra, Aspasia and Catherine De Medici. Man, however, sticks to one or at the most two pair of shoes at a time, and has only a thousand styles or so to select from. To combat the “oneshoe man” peril, manufacturers have announced a campaign to educate
FIRE LATCH GREAT AID TO SAFETY IN PUBLIC BUILDINGS Indianapolis - Made Product Boon to Humanity—Use Widespread. There is no record of the number of lives saved by an Indianapolis-made device marketed all over the world by an Indianapolis concern, but It is known that the loss of life would have been considerably reduced, if not avoided entirely in several notable fire disasters, if the buildings had been equipped with the Von Duprin fire exit latch, a safety device marketed by the Vonnegut Hardware Company. Notable among these disasters was the Colllnwood school fire in Cleve wind in which 178 school children and teachers died. There were plenty of exits properly placed, but the teachers and children were unable to get out quickly enough. The Von Duprin fire exit latch Is a cross bar attachment that releases the holt of a lock, even though the door may be locked from the outside. It responds to slight pressure on the cross bar and permits a door to open instantly when a hasty exit is necessary to permit the escape of crowds from a burning building. The attachment is found on th" doors of every school house, theater and place of amusement in Indianapolis. Every city of consequence In the United States and Canada, and many foreign communities are enjoying its protection. The latch was developed by C. J. Prinzlor, a member of the board of directors of the Vonnegut Hardware Company. It is manufactured in Indianapolis and in a plant in North Chicago
