PEDESTRIAN HURT AS CARS COLLIDE Woman Suffers Broken Hip When Auto Runs Wild, Mrs. Clyde Lorton, 33. of 1246 Ashland Avo., suffered a broken hip today when struck by a ear as it hurtled across a sidewalk after a collision at Ashland Ave. and Eleventh St. The car of Charles Brown. K. R. 2, Fortville, collided with that of Rufus Mahrling, 2910 Brookside Ave. Mahrlir.g-'s car was thrown over the sidewalk where Mrs. Lorton was walking. Both drivers were charged with assault and battery. J. L. Murrell. Louisville, passenger in a Yellow taxi, suffered severe bruises about the body and cuts on the right arm when the taxi was struck by a car diiven by B. R. ‘ Sprong. Sixteenth St. and Arlington i Ave. Sprong\s car was thrown into { the taxi as it collided with a car I driven by Ralph Beatty, 91a Cottage I Ave., at St. Clair St. and MaS- ; sachusetts Ave. Sprong was charged j with assault and battery. LAD, COASTING, IS KILLEDBY ADTO Wheel of Car Crushes Skull, Is Belief. By United Preet MUNCIE, lnd., lan. 23.—With one hand still grasping the rope of his sled, on which he had been coasting, the lifeless body of Leonard Martin, 9, wa£ found lying in the street, the skull crushed, apparently by an automobile wheel. There were no eye-witnesses to the tragedy, but the boy had been seen riding behind a motor bus and it is I thought he was struck by the wheel j when the vehicle backed to turn a corner near where the body was ! found. Neither the driver or passengers knew of the accident until questioned by police. FARMERS USING RADIO v - Federal Survey of State Shows Wireless in Most Homes. The radio is becoming as much of a farm implement in Indiana as the plow, George C. Bryant, director of the State crop cooperative bureau, said today. The State was included in a survey conducted by the Federal Department of Agriculture. More than 60 per cent of 1,200 farmers replying reported they owned the larger radio sets. Approximately 60 per cent said they used home-made sets ranging from simple crystal detectors to tube sets. Market and weather reports are now sent daily to the Hoosier farm homes as part of the Government crop reporting service.
