James Gordon Wins Times — I Circle Historical Essay Contest
J&mee E. Gordon, 1964 Park Ave., pm agent of the Acacia Mutual Life Association, today was declared winner of the Indianapolis Times-Clrcle Theater Roman history essay contest. Contestants were asked to Identify pictures and write essays telling of their historical Importance. After much time and study over the several hundred essays submitted, Mrs. William O. Bates, known for her work In Interest of the Little Theater Society and civic affairs, and Test Dalton, Indianapolis playwright and author, awarded the first prize of SSO in cash to Gordon. The winning essay was on “The Colosseum.” The Judges decided the essay proper as well as the way it was prepared, as regard to neatness and the like, deserved first mention. There were many other correct essays, some answering the entire series of six history pictures, but in some cases there were slight errors In composition.
