RORA CITIZENS JUSTLY PROUD OF COMMUNITY HOME New $65,000 Structure Completed and Dedicated Free of Debt. By Timet Special _ FLORA, Ind., Jan. B.—There are 1,441 persons living in the little town of Flora, Ind., Carroll County. If. by chance, you happened to visit that town today, the first question any one citizen of that number would ask you would be: “Have you seen our new community building? Such community spirit has made possible the erection of a $66,000 community building, recently completed and dedicatee free of debt. The money for the structure was raised by popular subscription, each citizen contributing an average amount of about S6O, an accomplishment few towns of a similar size in Indiana can boast. Right to Be Proud People of the community have a right to be proud. The building is a beautiful structure with simple impressive lines, designed and erected to supply an actual need, the need of an active, progressive community for an open forum, a place to house all fo’.ms of community meetings. It is of fireproof construction of hollow tile and brick supplied at cost by the Hoosier Tile and Silo Company, Albany. Ind. This company also supplied the masons to lay the brick. All other material was supplied at cost and it is estimated the building under contract would have cost $85,000. Cold Storage Plant The building is 80x140 feet In size, with basement, banquet room with seating capacity of 480, kitchen, shower rooms, heating plant and cold storage. The auditorium may be used for a basketball floor and is equipped with a stage. The ladies’ rest room is furnished with brown wicker furniture and the men’s lobby with leather upholstered furniture, ail arranged for beauty and comfort. The idea of a community building was fostered by the Flora Community Club, Inc., with a membership of 160 in three and one-half years. The*city has a balance of $210,047.67 in the general fund, according to annual report of Joseph L. Hogue, city controller. Receipts were $5,058,709.95 and expenditures $4,848,752.28 for the year. Appropriations above the budget amounted to $166,821.26 and transfers $86,113.58. A temporary loan of $600,000 was negotiated. Receipts of the city’s sinking fund were $1,546,710.41, with disbursements of $1,133,357.80. Disbursements included $378,845 88 principal on matured bonds and $34,506.73 interest. FUNERAL SERVICES FOR PROF. HOLTON WEDNESDAY Shelbyville Teacher Was VVldcvy Known in Educational Circles. By Times Special SHELBYVILLE, Ind., Jan. 8. —Funeral services for Prof. J. W. Holton, for eleven years superintendent of the Shelbyville public schools, who died at his home here, will be held at the First Christian Church, Wednesday, at 10 a. m. Prof. Holton's death followed a two years' Illness. He was a leading figure in educational circles in Indiana and' was largely responsible for the organization of institution of Bible study in the Indiana public schools. Mr. Holton was a member of the Knights Templar, the Odd Fellows and the Modern Woodmen. He was active in the affairs of the First Christian Church. He was a graduate of Indiana University. Surviving is the widow, his mother, two sons, four and three brothers. FOOD PRICES AT MARKETSTEADY Strawberries Continue Downward Trend. Strawberries continued their downward course at the city market today when another decline brought them to 60 cents a quart. Despite tiie exceptional quality of the berries they have dropped $1.15 a quart since Christmas. For the first time in many weeks, other fruits, vegetables and poultry products remained steady in price. Eggs, after their swift decline from 65 cents to 50 cents a dozen at the first break of the market, before Christmas, were at 50 cents. Live chickens at 30 cents a pound, dressed chickens at 38 and 40 cents, live turkeys at 45 cents and dressed turkeys at 60 cents a pound, were unchanged. Other prices: French endive, CO cents a pound; head lettuce, 15 cents a head; cucumbers, 10 and 15 cents each; green beans, 25 cents a pound; sweet potatoes, 13 cents a pound; button radishes, 20 cents a bunch: okl potatoes, 35 and 40 cents a peck; artichokes, 20 cents each.
