Baggage Master Doesn’t Believe in Tooting Horn
1 Retires on Seventieth Birthday as New Year Enters,
Some people celebrate when a task is successfully completed, others celebrated over a routine Incident like that of the passing of nn old year, and still others celebrate when they have a birthday. If M. E McMahon. 70, 2734 N Illinois St., were like other folks he would have been justified In holding a triple celebration New Year':; eve. But he didn’t. When he came in from his last run as baggage master on the Big Four Railroad from Indianapolis to Cleveland Monday night he went home and weht to bed. ‘Some folks spend most of their time celebrating.” McMahon said. “If they would spend more time working and less celebrating they would be better off." McMahon knows whereof he speaks on this matter of work. He has been at it since he was 8 veais old Forty-nine of his sixty-two rears of labor have been for the !!ig Four Railroad. But. it's all over now as far as necessity is concerned, for New Year’s eve he was retired' witn a pension. It was the date if his seventieth birthday, the completion of forty-nine years of railroad service. New Year’s day he and his wife and two of his three sons ate dinner at the home of Frank McMahon, one of the sons. That was sufficient celebration for him. “I'm glad to be home," he said. "Although I expect to keep busy, am going to take life easy from nowon. I think I have earned my rest, but there is nothing unusual in having worked at one job so long, for I believe every one should stick *o his work." Masons to Conduct Engineer’s Funeral Ancient Landmark Masonic Lodge will have charge of funeral services for Allen E. Bennett, 70, of 1418 E.
