G. 0. P. TO AWAIT DEVELOPMENTS IN GOVERNOR'S TIL Resolution Demands Resig- * nation Only Upon His Conviction. Republican State committee troubles resulting from the financial crash and subequent indictment of Governor McCray appeared to be at an end today following the adoption of a reso lution Tuesday night demanding the resignation of the Governor if he is convicted. The resolution was in the nature of a compromise, with the advantage probably in favor of the Governor. Clyde A. Walb. State chairman, had called the committee for the purpose of asking it to indorse his demand for the immediate resignation of the Governor. Following the meeting, however, Walb said he was satisfied with the action of the committee. The Resolution The resolution: “Whereas. Warren T. McCray, Governor of the State of Indiana, has been indicted, and , "Whereas, The Republican chairman of the Indiana State central committee, Clyde A. Walb, whose reputation for fair dealing is beyond reproach, has requested the State central committee to meet apd discuss what action should be taken by said committee relative to the resignation of Warren T. McCray as Governor, and after discussing said subject with said chairman, this committee feels, together with said chairman, that it is their duty to foilow the constitution in this. To-wit: That no man should l>e condemned until he is given a fair and impartial trial by twelve of his peers, and feeling that it is a humanitartan principle of law that every man is presumed innocent until he is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, we feel it our duty to stand by the constitution. “Now, therefore, be it resolved, that for any unethical acts on the part of any public official we express our repudiation and disavowance. and should the Governor be convicted in any court of justice this committee is of the opinion that he should thereupon immediately resign as Governor of the State of Indiana.'’ Adopted by Twelve The (resolution was adopted by twelve of the thirteen member of the committee. George Elliott. Newcastle, Sixth District chairman, refused to vote on any resolution. He issued a statement, however, saying he believed the committee should withhold judgment. A committee of editors were the only persons other than members to be admitted to the committee rooms. This committee consisted of George Lindsay, Marion; Henry W. Marshall and George W, Stout. ette; W. O. Feudner, Rushvllla: A. M. Smith, Crawfordsville: Richard McHie, Hammond: Bert B. Mavhill. Delphi; J. Frank McDermott, Attica, and Leo K. Fesler, Indianapolis. Chairman Walb received a message from Postmaster General Harry S. New repeat-ng his stand for the immediate resignation of the Governor. Hibernians Against Mayfield A resolution protesting against seating Senator Earle S. Mayfield. Texas, in the United States Senate, declaring that he is charged with violations of the election laws of Texas. &nd that he is charged with being a member of the Ku-Klux K.an, was adopted by a committee of the Indianapolis Division No. 3, Ancient Order of Hibernians.
