YULETIDE CHEER REIGNS IN CITY AS FETES BEGIN Twenty Thousand Children Will Be Entertained at Fire Stations, While Pageants and Special Programs Are Presented by Agencies,

With the spirit of Christmas in oomplete sway over the city entertainments, parties and dances are featuring the round of Yuletide celebration. In most cases, children are guests of honor as municipal, civic and social agencies strive to make their 1923 Christmas the merriest of all. Twenty thousand children are expected to be entertained in the thirtyone fire stations Saturday night in the city's annual Christmas party. Candy, fruit and presents will be distributed by firemen. Each house will have a San'a Claus and a tree. Arrangements were being completed today by W. T. Bailey, assistant city attorney, for actors appearing in local vaudeville houses to tour the fire stations and to assist in entertaining the children. Local business houses are donating decorations for the trees. Hundreds of Christmas carolers will sing in the downtown district and community houses Monday night, according to plans formulated by the park department. The park department has supervised the placing of Christmas trees on Monument PI. facing the end of each street, and has also obtained trees for each fire station 18.000 Bags of Candy Musicians have offered their services in orchestras free of charge. Approximately 18.000 bags of candy will be sacked today in the city hall. The entertainment is open to the public free of charge. "The Advent of Messiah." a pageant written by the Rev. O. A. Trinkle. pastor of the Englewood Christian Church, will be given by fifty church members and a church choir, twice Sunday and each evening, including Wednesday, in the community hall. Members of the Hoosier Athletic Club and children will be entertained Saturday evening with a program of gymnasium work and ballet dances by children in the gym classes. The final presentation will be made at 8 o’clock tonight. Admission is free. The doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8 p. m. Various civic clubs, including Kiwanis, Rotary, Optimist and Gyro clubs, are planning to help needy families and children by presenting food and presents. In some cases the work will be done by distribution through the neighborhood; in other cases entertainment is planned downtown. Many Fraternity Dances A round of dances is scheduled by college and high school fraternities and sororities during Christmas week. A number of Indianapolis young people home from college over the holidays are making the most of the holiday season in entertainment which will extend to New Year's Day. A number of Indianapolis firms are giving Christmas parties for their employes, and in some cases a Christmas tree turn been decorated in order that employes may exchange gifts.
