Dec. 21.—The j Christmas spirit filtered through the; walls of the Kansas State prison. | down deep under the ground and into the heart of Paul Sinquefeld, convict 7342, who worked with a pick in a coal mine. Realizing it was almost Christmas Sinquefeld groped along the dark channels of his memory for the name of someone who had been kind to j him and who he could make happy | Christmas morning. He finally recalled hie boyhood days j and pictured a room in Mercy hop j pitaJ where kindly nurses soothed and comforted him in illness. Mercy hospital today received a j check for $25. It was "coal money" j to the convict who earned it by dig- j ging more than his share, and could I have been spent for tobacco, candy. ! magazines or any other such luxuries. I
