DR. EDENHARTER’S LOSS IS DEEPLY FELTBYNAIION Tentative Services Arranged for 2 p, m, Saturday at Hospital Chapel, With the death Thursday of Dr George F. Edenharter, 66, for thirty years superintendent of the Central Indiana Hospital for the Insane, the nation has lost one of its pioneer leaders in research and care of men tal defectives. Death was the result of a stroke of paralysis suffered last May. Although he had regained his strength. Dr. Edenharter suffered a relapse about ten days ago and died Thursday at his apartments in the hospital. Capitol City Masonic Lodge will have charge of funeral services at 2 p. m. Saturday in the chapel at the institution he headed so many years Burial in Crown Hill cemetery. These are tentative arrangements, made by his associates at the institution, pend ing arrival of Ralph Edenharter. his son, a Philadelphia, Pa., attorney Honored by Wabash College During the time Dr. Edenharte’ was head of the institution. the Central Indiana Hospital for the In sane has been a leading institution for curative treatment. He was founder of the pioneer pathological ■aboratory for research and for In struction of physicians in treatment for insane. Dr. Edenharter was bora at Piqua. Ohio, In 1857. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Edenharter, both of whom were natives of Germany. He accompanied his parents to Indianapolis n 1875. He studied medi cine at Dayton, Ohio, coming to In dianapolis later to continue his stud ies at the Indiana Medical College. In addition to his medical degree from the Indiana Medical College, pr. Edenharter received, in 1904, an honorary degree of master of arts from Wabasli College. Dr. Edenharter was influential in bringing about the building of the Southeastern Hospital for the Insane at Madison, Ir.d.. and for creation of the epileptic village for care of curable cases at Newcastle. Ind. Thirty-Third Degree Mason He was a member of the Indianapo lis Medical Society, Marion County Medical Society. Indiana State Medi cal Society, American Med.cal Asso ciation, American Medico-Psycholog: cal Association and the New York Medico-Legal Society. Dr. Edenharter also was a Thirty-Third Degree Mason, a Kn.ght Templar, a Shrinei and a member of the Scottish Rite. The son is the sole survivor. Active charge of the Central Indiana H. s pital for the Insane is in hands of Dr. Max A. Bahr, acting superintend ent since illness of Dr. Edenharter last spring. , JOHN M'HENRY FUNERAL Resident Dies at Hot Springs After Month’s Sojourn. The funeral of John McHenry. 3537 N. Capitol Ave., who died Wednesday at Hot Springs. Ark., will be held Sat urday in Indianapolis. Definite arrangements were to be made after the arrival this afternoon of the widow wit), the body. The body was to be taken to the Shirley Bros undertaking establishment, 946 N. Illinois St. Mr. McHenry went to Hot Springs about a month ago.
