STATE FUND USE TOR HIGHWAYS IS CONCLAVE TOPIC 65 Per Cent of Auto Trucks Use City Streets, Figures Show. What proper distributlor of State funds for the maintenance of public highways and city streets shall be in the future will be discussed in preparation for legislative procedure in 1925, by the Allied Motor Commerce of Indiana at the Lincoln by the Indiana Transfer and Warhouse Men’s Association at the Claypool Friday when the sixth convention of each organization will be held. Members of the public service commission will attend both conventions to enable the organizations to determine whether or not the commission is capable of directing the affairs of the motor transportation systems In the State. Efforts to bring the transfer companies under the commission's control at the last General Assembly were defeated on the grounds the commission was not familiar enough with the problems of the companies to adjudicate their actions in establishing rates and In controlling competition. City Streets Used Most The discussion over distribution of road maintenance expenditures will be based on figures showing 65 per cent of trucks in the State operate on city streets, while 35 per cent operate part time on public highways. Since it is estimated the companies will be paying 115,000,000 Into the treasury by 1926 for gasoline tax and license fees. It is expected both organizations will ask more money expended for improvement of city streets which they say are deteriorating rapidly and less money used for public highways. The question will be raised Friday morning by W. S. Frye, Indianapolis, chairman of the street construction and maintenance committee, and William Kreis, chairman of the State license committee. Indiana’s Program, 1924-25 E. J. Shover of Columbus, 0., will broach the question of utility commission control Saturday in an address, “Commission of Motor Transport.” F. C. Schmidt of Toledo. 0., will give an address, "Inter-State Motor Transport.” John D. Williams, director of the State highway commission, also will •peak Saturday on “Indiana’s Highway Program for 1924-25.” KING TUT DUE FOR REST Egyptologist Predicts It May Take Four Years to Reach Mummy. WHO WROTE THE ORDERS Attaches of Utility Commission Should Receive Credit. Some of the most important orders of the public service commission during the last few months have been prepared by attaches of the commission and not by the commissioners themselves, it has been learned. One of these orders, it has been pointed out, in which strong safe guards for the public were inserted, was one approving petition of tne Northern Indiana Gas and Electric Company to buy capital stock and bonds of the Peru Gas Company. A1 though the securities were sold for $221,000, the commission limited the book value of the equity to $137,500. This order was written by a man .n the accounting department, it is known. Some time ago credit for the order was given to Frank Wampler, anew member of the commission. HAMMOND IN HOSPITAL Sentence on Trespass Charge to Be Started Dee. 28. R. L.
