HIRAM SIS UP INDIANA POLITICS ' BY DEMO ‘CAL’ John Moorman in Charge of Johnson Primary Preliminaries. Activity of Senator Hiram Johnson, California, in Indiana preliminary to catering the Republican presidential primary here, has stirred up considerable speculation as to the form the presidential campaign in Indiana will take. Senator Johnson was a candidate in the Indiana primary in 1920 and finished close behind Gen. Leonard Wood, who led the State. Johnson always has had a strong following in Indiana, particularly in the northern section, and his entrance into the campaign has resulted in friends of other candidates and possible candidates looking to their political fences. John Moorman in Charge John Moorman. Knox, who was a close friend of President Harding, has announced he will have charge of preliminaries, at least, of the Johnson Indiana campaign He was one of Harding’s managers in Indiana in 1920. Moonhan’s principal idea seems to be to defeat President Coolidge. In this connection, it is recalled that Moorman blannxl CoOlidge for the movement among Indiana Republicans to oust Governor McCray. He contended Coolidge desired to see MeOray’s failure blamed on his own vrongdoing rather than on the price ilepression in agriculture. Rumors About Senator Watson Johnson’s entry into the Indiana contest is expected to result in other candidates entering the primary to prevent the contest’ by default. Although some friends of President Coolidge have said he will not enter a primary, there are reports this decision‘will be reconsidered. There is said to be a possibility also of Senator James E. Watson entering the Indiana contest as a favorite son. Indications are there will be no Democratic presidential primary. William G. McAdoo and Senator Oscar Underwood, the two most active candidates, are said to have conceded the State to Senator Samuel M. Ralston. 51,000 Fire at Hotel Building The boiler room in the rear of the Oliver Ave. Hotel. 1229 Oliver Ave., was damaged to the extent of SI,OOO late Tuesday by fire of an unknown origin, officials estimated today.
