FIRE FIGHTERS TO , HONOR DEAD CHIEF IN SATURDAY RITE Harry Johnson Recommended to Fill Vacancy of O’Brien Aide. Indianapolis will pay final tribute to Himeon C. Hoy], assistant fire chief, Who died early Thunrsday morning, at funeral services at the home, 123 W. Eighteenth St., Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. Burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery. Fremen who were associated with Hoyl in his long servie in the department will be pallbearers. Oriental Lodge, Ho. 500, F. and A. M-, will have charge of services at the cemetery. Fire Chigf John J. O’Brien will - recommend the appointment of Battalion Chief Harry Johnson to take Hoyl's place. Johnson is chief of the fourth district and was fire chief under the Bell administration serving from 1914-1918. He entered the fire department in 1896. Captain ‘William Stetnhauer of Pplace Johnson as battalion chief. Stelnhauer has been on the fire department twenty-four years. Johnson is a democrat and Stelnhauer a Republican. Chief O'Brien’s recommendations will be presented to the board of safety Tuesday.

Gold and Brevity Are Favored by Merchants for Trade Signs
Some people believe in signs. Others don’t. But. if there is a merchant in Indianapolis who doesn’t believe In signs, he Is a hypocrite. Regardless of what his beliefs may be, he nails his shingle of varying dimensions over the door and “tells the world” what business he is in. Furthermore, it appears Indianapolis merchants don’t believe in the wellknown proverb, “All is not gold that glitters.” Did you ever notice how many gold signs there are emblazoned over the doors of local business establishments? Hundreds of them. It probably is true that seven of every ten signs are gold lettered. To other colors there appears to be no partiality. Blue and white and red and white are popular, however. Another w. k. proverb Indianapolis merchants apply to their business, "Brevity is the soul of wit.” Maybe they don’t believe that, but they do believe brevity is the secret of successful advertising.
