ARMISTICE DAY PROGRAMS GIVEN AT HIGH SCHOOLS Overseas Chaplain Urges Students to Work Against War, Public high schools observed Armistic day today. Speeches portraying war and its effect on the world, and exercises by the military bodies of each of the schools were features. “Europe Is a seething mass of intrigue and despotism and is heading straight to another war,” said Oswald Ryan of the American Legion, who tcured Europe. Ryan spoke at Shortridge. “I was In London when the silent messenger flashed the news of Harding’s death,” he said. “Europe wondered what great revolution would sweep over America. In a short time news came that Coolidge was sworn in. The people were astounded. America is the salvation of the world.” Patriotic songs were sung by the Service quartet at each of the two sessions which were held at the first and secon dperiods. Dr. C. H. Taylor of the Broadway M. E. church addressed the first session. The Rev. George W. Allison, pastor of the Irvington Baptist Church, an overseas chaplain, said at Manual Training High School: “The last wax proved the present generation is an patriotic as that in which our forefathers lived. But it was not your war. That is yet to come and will come unless you do all in your power to prevent it.” Twelve members of the faculty who were In the service were cheered. Patriotic numbers were given by the band and the Girl’s Glee club. Manual Ivy Day Members of the January senior class of Manual Training High School participated in observance of Ivy day, presenting a “pageant of loyalty.” Miss Jessie Moore directed the pageant.
