PIONEER’S DEATH RECALLS DAY DF COVERED(WAGONS Mrs, Martha Clark, Who Came to State in 1853, Dies Here, Across rugged Kentucky mountains and the rough hilly section of southern Indiana, with nothing but a covered wagon for protection, a brave Kentucky family Journeyed to their new Putnam County, Ind., home In 1853. Mrs. Martha Clark. 75, who was 5 years old, the only girl and the youngest of five children and a widowed mother in the wagon, died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Howard Stout, 2939 Bellefontalne St. Mrs. Davis vividly recalled the harassing trip which was made after a brother, Clark McDonald, had come to Indiana to establish the home In Putnam County and then returned to Shelby County, Kentucky, for the remainder of the family. Mrs. Davis moved to Indianapolis in 1869. She was married to Henry Davis, a furniture dealer. She and her husband were members of the Seventh Presbyterian Church for more than fifty years. Surviving:, two children, Sidney Wallace Davis and Mrs. Howard Stout, and a brother, David W. Cook of Stockton, Kan. Funeral services will be held at the daughter's home, at 2:30 p. m., Saturday. The Rev. A. R. Miles will officiate. Burial in Crown Hill cemetery. THEY ARE NOT IN RACE Emsley W. Johnson, county attorney, today said he is not a candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor. Attorney Merle N. A. Walker, likewise said he was not going to try to be Republican nominee for United States Senator. The statements were prompted by announcement of Henry W. Lewis, colored, 46 X.
