NO words have a more pathetic meaning. From time immemorial the worthy causes of humanity have oftimes uttered this cry to the heavens, in hope that someone might turn back to assist and help. And in this twentieth century this old phrase, “They passed me by,” has been coined into one word and is used occasionally in the best of society to explain what is felt to be a passing twinge of sorrow for a grievanced wrong—The word is ALIBI. [ Speaking frankly, there were citizens of our no mean .city who used this word last year to explain their reason for not contributing to their Community Fund. But, this year, no alibis are necessary, for this advertisement, printed in all Indianapolis newspapers, will reach the eyes of every person in Indianapolis. So, when you and I read this message, let’s remember the hundreds who were passed by last year because no funds were available to help them; let’s think what our contributions this year will mean to those who wait and suffer; let’s join the procession of those who care for the unfortunate; let’s throw away every vestige of alibi that might enter our souls, and subscribe our names with our money to the “Honor Roll of Indianapolis.”
IF no Community Fund worker has called upon you—think not that you have been missed intentionally—no canvass can be complete —fill out coupon, attach check or money and mail now. Join the unknown givers without a signature if you desire.
