NEW REFORMATORY COSTS ARE SHOWN Over $2,060,000 Spent in Building So Far. How much has Indiana’s new two-million-dollar reformatory at Pendleton cost the State? How much more is it going to cost the State? These are questions , frequently asked and less frequently answered. To date the institution’s construction has cost $2,060,205.31, according to records of the last and previous fiscal years, in the office of Robert Bracken, State auditor. Out of the $2,000,000 appropriation of the last legislature a balance of $912,668.91 remained Oct. 30. This included proceeds from a recent sale of land at the Pendleton site, which netted sll,lOO. The second $1,000,000 of the last appropriation became available Oct 1, showing the average monthly expenditure to be nearly SIOO,OOO. Before the present appropriation became available the State spent a total of $2,049,005, Including ccsts of anew site, removal of equipment and prisoners. FRANKFORT DAIRYMAN IN FINANCIAL STRAITS Deeds Farm, Mortgaged for $65,000 to His Wife. By Tlmts Special FRANKFORT. Ind.. Nov. 2.—Creditors of Oliver P. McLeland, farmer near here, today were awaiting action of insurance adjusters working on the $35,000 claim of McLeland for his dairy bam, which burned recently. McLeland invested in land here when prices were at the peak, installed a large dairy bam and purchased the finest herd in this section. He has suffered through the general agricultural depression. He has deeded his 455-acre farm, which Is mortgaged for $65,000, to his wife Ella, of Tipton ,Ind. Forty-two head of McLeland’s dairy herd were taken to Akron, Ohio, recently. where $3,500 was realized at auction. Two suits have been filed against McLeland on notes totaling $2,900. Other notes are held by Frankfort business men. 'TWAS JUST A JUG, BUT! James Alexander Carried It Out of House, Police Say. Police saw James Alexander, 511 S. Tibbs Ave.. leave the house carrying a Jug. He was arrested and charged with operating a blind tiger. Stanley Pitchford. 34, of the Loralne Hotel; Harry Barr, 41 Palace Hotel; Anten Warner, 3S, of 710 N Holmes Ave., and Charles Crawford, 37, of 1706 S. Harding St., are all charged with operating a blind tiger. The last man also has charges against him of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and of speeding. C. O. Williams Resigns Charles O. Williams of Richmond, superintendent of the Richmond city schools, has resigned to become permanent secretary treasurer of the Indiana State Teachers’ Association, to which position he was elected recently.
