Built to accommodate both their private and business life, the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Mattwig. 1122 El. Washington St., Is a well developed example of what may be done in the construction of residences that are to combine home and office facilities The house occupied by the Mattwlgs is duplex in character and was planned and built by the Indiana Builders' Corporation. The house Is built of dull red brick with trim of creamy tan. The south frontage, with deep porches, adds to the cheer and comfort of the place. The lower floor Is devoted to the
INDIA COAL IS IN GREATDEMAND Hoosier Fuel Gains in Popularity Year by Year, Every year brings some new light cn the suhject of properly heating the house. More and more stress has been laid on the proper firing of the furnace, as one very good way to j eliminate much of the soot and smoke | that la Incident to burning softer grades of coal such as those mined In this State. A few years ago It was believed j that all this smoke and soot were i necessary evils accompanying locally mined coal and nothing was done ( about It, but It has recently been found that careful firing does much I to reduce these evils. According to Ray Macy, president j of the People‘s Coal and Cement Com- ' pany, more and more Indiana coal Is being sold. "So far this year.” said Mr. Macy, “the volume of Indiana coal as compared to others, has been grent- ! er than in any other recent year.” “Statistics show that the best | grades of Indiana coal average 13,400 | British thermal units per pound, while Pocahontas coal averages 16,000 and anthracite less. When It is considered that It costs *1.14 a ton to pro- | cure a ton of Indiana coal and *2.62 to ship In Pocahontas, it can be seen | how much less the former will cost. "Prices for coal seem absolutely steady. Tnere did not seem to be the usual fluctuations during the month of September and October. We are handling very little anthracite, as most consumers are using soft coal.” In order to establish the better grades of Indiana coal, they have been given names so that they can be more easily remembered. There Is such a difference inthe grades of Indiana coal that the man who orders it should have some knowledge of this difference so that he will order what he needs and wants. _Z Interstate Movie Meeting Officers and directors of motion pioture show owners’ associations In five mld-Western States will meet Nov. 14 and 16 In French Lick to arrange a crusade against several forms of taxation, which the owners regard as confiscatory. Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin associations will be represented.

1 Si PLAN Easy Terms Make Revamping of Old Homes Possible, Electricity la the one kind of power that magically responds to a single movement —the pushing of a tiny buti ton which controls the switch What a far cry It Is today, with modern homes beautifully Illuminated by electric current, from the days of the past generations when the frail, flickering wick of candje afforded the only light. Not only Is this great power used In the modem home for Illumination, but It Is used as the motive force for household de vices that have been planned with one Idea —to lighten labor for the housewife. These are numerous electric washers, electric Irons, mangles, sweep | ers, curjlng Irons, table grills, toastI ers and even ranges now ars electrified. The age of electricity has developed so rapidly that many houses that are not so very old have been built with gas Installed for lights. Realizing how much more ccnvenie-it electricity Is, many people who own such homes wish them wired for electricity but are hesitant to have the work done because of the expense According to Tom Hatfield of the Hatfield Electrlo Company this company has now evolved a plan whereby the home-owner may have his house wired for electricity and the fixtures Installed for a small down payment end the rest of the account may be paid In equal Installments covering twelve months. “This,” said Mr. Hatflejd, "enables a man to have the many advantages of electricity In his home without obliging him to make a heavy financial outlay at one time. Besides the | utiltarian advantages of electric lights I and electric household devices, probaj bly no other one agency goes farther I toward beautifying the home.”

Built in bookcases take up the space at the ends of the fireplace and added light la given by windows above. Wicker, upholstered In tapestry, furnishes the sun parlor. French doors lead from the living room to the sun parlor and open from the living room to the dining room.
