Where Does Passing Show Get Girls? Madame Liszniewska Concert Friday
Every time anew “Passing Show” ■ comes along, as “The Passing Show” Few 1923 Edition, will be at the Shubert-Murat next week, commencing Monday, Nov. 5, one wonders where all the pretty girls come from. The Winter Garden makes use of at least 125 girls in each new production, and as there are three such productions each season and one always In preparation, over 300 girls are required during the year, not to speak of the years when there are two or three Winter Garden extravaganzas touring. However, it is not necessary to put "want ads” in the newspapers. Young stage aspirants come and come from everywhere on the map. It thus grows to be a matter of mere selection and hence it is no wonder that the Winter Garden has such an unfailing supply. To the unitiated the annual list of applicants at the Winter Garden Is nothing short of amazing. It would seem that every girl born in the United States sought such a position. Before any of these girls can be used in a production, she must be taught the art of dancing. The Winter Garden has a school for this purpose. No matter how pretty she may be, a girl Is never allowed to step on the Winter Garden stage until she has been carefully trained. If she can't learn to dance, but can wear clothes and has a prepossessing appearance, she may become a showgirl, but show-girls have no future ahead of them. They are decorative and essentia], but their main chance is marriage it is said. + -I- INew Show Opens at Palace Theater Today “Flashes From Songland'* tops the new show opening at the Palace today. It is staged in nine scenes, representing in song pictures the words that are being sung hy an oc-! tette. Nerrett and Mann are com-, edy funsters of the eccentric type, j who have a number of songs and one or two parodies. Eric Phillips and! company present a sketch with tunes ! and dances, while Judson Cole entertains with magic. Shelia Terry and . company present a sketch titled "May ! and December," billed as a romance I In seven scenes. "The Drivln’ Fool” is the screen at-1 traction, being the story of a wild, * devil-may-care driver who finds enough thrills In a cross-country race j to keep him fed up on speed for the J rest of his life. The lead parts are ! taken by Patsy Ruth Miller and Billy Van. -I- -I- -!- Matinee Musical* to Present Liszniewska Friday at 3 o’clock at the Murat, the Matinee Musical* will present Marguerite Melville Liszniewska. pianist She was a soloist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at the time Eugene Ysaye was conductor and has also appeared with the orchestra since Fritz Reiner became conductor
