LEADERS REMAIN FIRM IN FACE OF FURTHERSELLING Marketwise Observers Say Market Is Entering Accumulating Stage, The WALL*STREET JOURNAL NEW YOPvK, Oct. 27.—The weekly mercantile reviews reported that the general volume of business and the pace of industry were being well maintained despite certain irregularities. Prices in the general list of stocks, however, continued under the influence of Friday’s selling movement in today’s ORrly dealings. American Sugar had a further sharp decline to new low ground for the year, while Baldwin, Studebaker, Woolen and other industrial leaders suffered fractional losses from the previous final quotations. First Hour Heavy selling continued In many sections of list and further new lows were forced in numerous stocks before the end of the first hour. American Sugar had another sharp break to 49 while Coca Cola broke 3% to 65%. Colorado Fuel dropped 2% to 23% reflecting the $315,000 loss in the third quarter, the only deficit shown tor that period by the larger steel companies. American Woolegi appeared to be getting very little support from insiders. The weakness of the stock for the last several weeks cannot be attributed to bear raids. Closing Hour Selling Bubelded somewhat In late dealings, but no rally took place In the general list before the close, though a few bright spots were in evidence, one of which was Pressed Steel Car, which is enjoying remarkably good earnings. It would be superfluous to repeat that industrial leaders still displayed impressive resistence. So stubborn has been the behaviour of these stocks in the face of the week's selling movement that the Wall Street community no longer needs to be reminded that their action plainly indicates the market is entering an accumulating rather than a liquidating stage. Twenty active industrial stocks on Saturday averaged 85.76, off .25 per cent. Twenty active rails averaged 77.65, unchanged. Local Bank clearings Indianapolis bank ciearinys Saturday vrrro $2,560,000; tor the week, $19,490,000. Bank debits Saturday were $5,587,000; sor tbe week, $33,082,000. CHICAGO GRAINS LOWERAT CLOSE By United Financial CHICAGO. Oct. 27.—Grain prices closed fractionally lower on the Chicago Board of Trade today. Selling pressure developed on numerous bulges that featured the wheat market and created a nervous and | erratic feeling. Russia news again loomed bearish. The Soviet government was reported to have entered ! competition for Italian and Greek orders to be placed Nov. 1. No export business was repdrted during the short session aside from the 750,000 bushels worked over night. Corn held steady up to the last hour, when late realizing caused fractional recessions. Most of those who sold out were shorts. Up to the final dip, unfavorable weather, both present and prospective, was a predominating Influence in the steady undertone. Oats closed dull and lower with other grains. Provisions maintained an easy undertone. Trade was light. Chicago Grain Table (By Thomson & McKinnon) —Oct. 87— WHEAT— Prey. Open. High. Low.
