How They Make Red Blood Out on Maple Rd.

" IFF! Wham! Ouch! Leggo my B __J Sounds like a bunch of German Communists running on to a cookie lying In the street. But It Isn’t. The N. Meridian St. Beak-Busters and the Map!eton Chloroformers are having their nightly pigskin soiree in front of the long row of brightly lighted bill-boards along Maple Rd., near Meridian St. Every night the 98-pound elevens from the neighborhoods get out and root up the sod under the brilliant illumination of sign boards along the boulevard. They use no whitewashed ghost ball, these boys. Several professional teams often are seen working out at night under the "bright lights.” But the diminutive chaps, thirsting for “blood” of their fellows around the corner, are the most frequently seen. They need no officials, either. Let a passer-by stop and offer, with benign benevolence, his services as official and see how quickly some Jackie Coogan wraps a football around his nose. It's their own game and they brook no Interference. Score boards they have in plenty. The Maple Road Massacre eleven uses a pastry advertisement to chalk up ltr touchdowns and the Bloody Bludgeons from Boyle Ave. use an Ice cream sign. Once a copper tried to stop them. He found himself in a mass play in whloh the center takes the ball and all the rest of the team pile up on top of him. The officer was underneath. The boys thought the opposing team was playing a ringer (player over 100 pounds) and immediately set out to "kill ’im.” CIVIC CLUBS TALK FUNDS Ways of raising funds to carry on Its annual program will be discussed tonight by the Indianapolis Federation of Community Civic Clubs at the Chamber of Commerce.
