GREAT VALUE OF LANDSCAPING IS FULmpLIZED Expert Declares Mr, Householder Is Now Caring for His Lawn, This is open season for planting. The C. M. Hobbs and Son Nurseries with over three hundred acres of every kind of shrub, fruit trees offers many suggestions for any one Interested in Improving the exterior of a home. Avery attractive booklet, illustrated In colors and giving valuable information on 'the planting and care of nursery stock, can be had on request. A trip to the nurseries at Bridgeport will be a real treat to any home owner. "We urge the planting of everything at this season of the year for the best results next year, said Harry Hobbs, manager of the nurseries. It is little late for peonies to get blooms next spring, but this is the time to plant for a good healthy growth." "Our firm was established in 1875 and while a lot of educational work was necessary, the idea of landscaping has grown rapidly. Good looking exteriors are in demand and nothing adds to the attractiveness or value of property like a few shrubs, trees and Rowers. The automobile has enabled every one to ¥ out of doors more and a beautiful lawn and lot attracts more than passing notice. We have hundreds of visitors every week. Many of our customers were discouraged in their first year’s of planting, especially those who did not have any idea of the care of their plants. Our plants, before sold, have all been cared for through the delicate I part of their growth, and when delivered are hary enough that they will grow with very little, but intelligent, care." "A few dollars spent right this fall will add many dollars to any home next year. We are always glad to suggest and help any one as to what to plant, how to plant and when to plant." FURNACE SUCCESS DEPENDS! CARE Improper Firing Will Cause Much Dissatisfaction, Expert Says, Save coal and also your furnace by being thoroughly familiar with your furnace. Knowing how to operate and fire a furnace Is moat Important, according to Daufel Bros., 1133 Hoefgen St„ agents for the Sunbeam Furaac^. A poor furnace handled Intelligently will often give better satisfaction and outlast a good furnace handled improperly. Be suro pipes are prop e-rly covered with an asbestos covering that will keep heat from escaping and that the furnace is in good repair before starting a fliV If a furnace is proporly fired much fuel may be saved. Throw the coat first to one side of the fire bowl and then to the other, leaving part of the red bed of coals exposed. This will Ignite and burn the coal* gasses Instead of sending them up the flue. D<k not force a furnace, as a fast burning fire causes incomplete combustion and bums out the furnace. Regulate the furnace by the damper and ash pit door instead of the fuel door, and be sure it is clean and always kept that way. This will save much trouble and a lot of dirt through the house. These are a few important suggestions offered to furnqce owners which, if followed, will very valuable. "Time is getting short for furnace repairs ,and calls are increasing daily. Late orders are not going to have aB prompt attention as we would like to give. We are able to furnish repairs for ail makes of furnaces promptly at present,” said Mr. Daufel. BRUNSWICKS MAY BE RESERVED FOR CHRISMS Gins
Season for Lay-Aways Approaches, Says Manager Baker,
According to W. J. Baker of The Brunswick Shop, 124 N. Pennsylvania St., it Is not to early to lay away a “Christmas Brunswick."
The giving of things musical as Christmas gifts has grown rapidly the last several years and last year more Brunswicks were sold than ever In the history of this store. “We are already receiving our Christmas stock and have provided for the laying away of instruments for Christmas delivery. "At present our stock is complete in all models and we are inviting early selections. The Brunswick makes an ideal gift as exclusive features found only on the Brunswick enable the o vner to have a complete record library. "The Brunswick plays all records without attachments and to that it owes a large part of its popularity. Another feature responsible for .the round, full, soft natural tone is the ali-wood amplifier which is moulded of genuine orange wood. The aim of the manufacturers of Brunswick Phonographs has been to render true tone in their reproductions and eliminate volume of tone which so often causes harshness. Brunswick records also are enjoying a wonderful demand and are recognized lor their softness and the absence of surface noise which has been practically eliminated. I "The demand fort our danoe selections has grown by leaps and bounds. Some of the world’s greatest dance orchestras are recording exclusively for Brunswick, including The Oriole Terrace Orchestra, Isham Jones, Gene Rodemich, Carl Fenton and many others,” said Mr. Baker.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Loyd, 406S N. Capitol Ave., presenting a most hospitable and inviting appearance, is truly a “Brick Veneer Home,” and the more cordially offers, Its home-like atmosphere with the wide, roomy porch extending the entire length of the house. The house stands on a beautifully wooded lot, terraced with white concrete steps leading down to the street. Concrete walks lead around the house to the two-car garage in the rear. An outstanding and characteristic feature of this house is the large, welcoming entrance with solid wood door bearing' a brass escutcheon plate with brass knob. Panel lights on each side give an effect of greater masslvness. Full Length Living Room One immediately enters a fulllength living room with windows across the entire east front. The attraction of a large yellow brick fireplace and mantel with French windows on either side is Intensified by the clear, bevel glass mirror hanging over the fireplace. Os rare charm la the grouping of a hand-carved antique and rocker. A pedestal table, topped by a basket of bright flowers, adds a note of color. Antique Furniture Used Two of the bedrooms are entirely furnished with notably rare old pieces from the South, handed down through the family for many years. These include a bell-posi mahogany bed, massive hand carved cheat of drawers, ancient dresser with horse shoe mirror, and other equally interesting pieces. The luster of wood and beauty of finish has been carefully preserved and to one especially interested In rare antiques this house would be a source of delight. Arch openings of unusual design lead from the living room to the sjfdrwajr, hailway and dining room. To the left of the hall is a full mirrored door opening into a coat closet anl a nearby door opens to the basement entry. The designer has placed the kitchen at the end of this hall and immediately west of it is the cozy and cheery breakfast room. Honve Well lighted Well placed windows afford abundant light, sunshine and air throughout the whole house. And the window arrangement taking up the whole north wall of the dining room Is a most pleasant feature of the room. A window seat follows the line of the windows across the room and Mrs. Loyd has utilized this to a splendid advantage by banking it with ferns and flowering house plants. The lighting fixtures, both ceiling clusters and wall candles are In Eltruscan finish, their soft pastels harmonizing and blending Into the wall paper in soft tones of gray, ivory, rose and blue. The French grey woodwork used throughout the house also gives a neutral color harmony. The upstairs plan is a convenient arrangement. Including two bedrooms, •i nursery, complete bathroom and a large hall. Patentee Wins Suit Patents for gravel dredging machinery, owmed r by Jess A.
