FESLER DRAFTING ! BRIDGE ORDINANCE FOR DELAWARE ST. Mayor Promises Suit of Clothes If Work Is Completed Next Summer. An ordinance asking the Marlon County council to appropriate funds for construction of a Delaware St. bridge over Fall Creek was being drafted by Leo K. Fesler, county auditor, today for Introduction at the council meeting, Nov. 7. Feeler’s move followed a mass meeting of citizens at Thirty-Fourth and New Jersey Sts. Tuesday night in which county and city officials promised oooperatlon with the project. Frank Wampler, president of the Hooaler Motor Club, presided. More than three hundred persons attended. "If a bridge at Delaware St. is what the taxpayers want, I’m for It,” said C. O. Dodson, a member of the county council. Harry Tutewiler and Frank E. BroVn, county commissioners, promised to cooperate. Griffith Promised Suit When John J. Griffith, county engineer, said that the bridge could be completed next summer, If bids were advertised before Jan. 1, Mayor Shank rroml3ed Griffith a $75 suit of clothes. "And I’ll furnish the hat,” said John Elliott, city engineer. "These improvements cost money, but they are worth while,” said Mayor Shank. “When Tom Taggart bought Riverside Park, people thought It was a great stsal, but they know differently now. If streets are not widened now, and bridges built, It will cost more later.” Wampler explained that the Hoosler Motor Club was Interested in the development of city streets as well as rural highways. He said mass meetings are planned In other parts of the city. Other speakers were the Rev. J. Ambrose Dunkel, pastor of the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church; Bert A. Boyd, E. W. Warn ter. Emsley W. Johnson, George J. Marott, E. J. Gausepohl, Thomas F. Carson, C. L. Kirke, M. E. Noblet and Louis Coleman. The police and firemen’s band gave a concert. FIGHTING CHANCE SAVED More to End Remonstrance Against Beth-El Temple Fails. A move to end remonstrances of neighboring property owners againßt erection of the Beth-El Temple by a Jewish congregation. Thirty-Fourth and Ruckle Sts., was blocked late Tuesday when John Elliott, city engineer at the board of zoning appeals voted unfavorably. The board denied the petition of the Colonial Finance Company to build business rooms in a residential district at Asbury and Minnesota. WABASH MEN WILL MEET Annual Gridiron Banquet of Indianapolis Association Friday. Farmer Crushed to Death Ity United Press BEDFORD, Ind.', Oct. 24.—Curtis Minn, farmer, was crushed to death, lit fell beneath a load of gravel. Five ribs were crushed, one of them penetrating his heart.

that Is, kept at 62 to 68—without any discomfort or any danger to health. ‘‘Keeping the house temperature lower Is the easiest way to save fuel,” Mr. Wyer asserts. “It Is fuel saved by doing less work. “In most houses, especially when hot air furnaces are used, the room air Is too dry for health and comfort. A room with proper humidity of air —not less than 30 per cent —will be more comfortable and healthful at a low temperature than one where the moisture content is too low. That J. R. Quinn, newly elected commander of the American Legion, would not visit Indianapolis before Jan. 1, is the opinion at national headquarters here. Quinn Is still In San Francisco meeting with officers and it is believed he is arranging an itinerary for touring the country. He is not expected to leave San Francisco before Nov. 6. Members of the Indiana delegation to the convention will return about Nov. 1, it was stated at headquarters.

Calking oakum or other calking material around window and*door frame* and weather stripping for doors and windows, whether of wood, felt, rubber or metal, will reduce unnecessary cold air leakage. Cellars are always desirable, since floors where the wind can get underneath are aot only uncomfortable, but serious heat wasters. Health Menace Improper heating and ventilation not only causes discomfort and unneoeesary expense, but la a serious menace to health, Mr. Wyler adds. In other words, the highest death rate occurs during the heating season. This Is due to lowering of vitality on account of Improper heating and ventilation. The toxic action from combustion products—especially carbon monoxide —from filueless gas-heating stoves Is also Important.” Cover Piped Water tanks, furnaces and pipes for hot air, water or steam should be adequately insulated. Merely covering with one thickness of asbestos sheets is not enough—in fact, this 1* worth-

less. The covering must be half an inch thick to be effective, and then will make a marked saving in fuel and will heat the living room Instead of the basement. Most hot-air furnaces have a sluggish hot-air draft. Placing an electric motor fa l in the cold-air Intake, according to Mr. Wyer, will: Increase the volume of air going through the furnace and deliver more heat but at a lower register temperature. It will deliver a warm instead of a hot air, thus producing better conditions in the room. Absorb more heat from the fuel, thus decreasing the fuel consumption. NAVY DAY IS PROCLAIMED McCray Calls Attention Also to Memory of Roosevelt. Following designation of next Saturday as Navy Day, Governor McCray has Issued a statement urging observnace of the occasion throughout the State and calling attention to the fact It is the birthday anniversary of the late Theodore Roosevelt, former President of the United States. "Remembering the glorious achievements which have been wrought by the Navy heroes for the last century, this annual observance Is entirely fitting and proper,” the statement said.
