POLITICIAN FINED ON BOOZECHARGEi Sixty-Seven Half Pints Seized at William Gavin Saloon, William "Gippy” Gavin, 619 S. West St., politician, was fined SIOO and costs Wednesday in city court on a blind tiger charge. Gavin was arrested on Aug. 4, after the police had raided his dry beer saloon at 818 S. West St., and confiscated sixty-seven-half-pints of liquor. Frank jianidn, 925 W. New York St, was fined SIOO and costs and sentenced sixty days on the Indiana State Farm, after the police seized a quanity of liquor at his dry beer place at 935 W. York St. Dave Wagoner, 1004 W. New York St., and Ralph Banks, 18 W. North St., were fined SIOO and costs and given sixty days on the State farm and SSO and costs respectively. They were arrested when police found them with liquor in their possession, alleged to have been purchased from Manion. Blucher Smiley, colored, 1115 N. Belmont Ave., was fined $1 and costs on a drunkennness charge and SIOO and costs and sentenced to sixty days on the penal farm for driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor, as the result of an accident at Tenth St. and Senate Ave., on Oct. 7, when a machine he was drivingcollided with an automobile driven by Marcel Pettit, 1117 Central Ave. The fine and farm sentence were suspended upon payment of costs. Highley, superintendent of the Lafayette schools; Merle Coons, county superintendent, Crawfordsville. and A. C. Klbbey, principal of Shelbyville High School, are members of the board of directors. John J. Tigert, national commissioner of education, spoke favoring retention of the vocational rehabilitation law.
