When one stops to consider the number of persons In his own circle of acquaintances who have lost money during the preceding year through unfortunate investment, he wonders why a “Safety First” slogan is not as Stringently and universally urged as a preventive of financial disaster as it Is in warding off perils of casualty and hygiene. Whether you have a dollar, a hundred dollars, or a thousand dollars, there Is no safer Investment In the whole world than a Saving & Loan Association. Statistics compiled some time ago show conclusively that there has not been a single Instance where an investor has lost a cent in ono of these associations. Os what other investment—stocks or bonds, can this be said? Why is it safe? Because it is protected. First, it is protected by first mortgage on real estate—the old ironclad protection. Second, it is protected by State supervision, which supervision the associations themselves were instrumental in procuring. An annual examination of the association's transactions Is made and the statement resulting shows not only assets and liabilities, but accounts completely for every dollar of receipts and disbursements. If Patrick Henry, famous for his declaration that “Taxation Without Representation Is Tyranny,” were alive today he would no doubt go on record for asserting that “Investment .Without Protection Is Folly.” We took the "If” from “Thrift." ELIZABETH OUT RUE CONSTANTINE VERY THIN GLOVES WAY SUSAN DART. The jumble of words shown above was found printed or* a motto several hundred years old. As the methods of printing and type setting were very poor, It is assumed the letters were all set in one continuous: line, and then separated into words by a novice, who did his job very poorly, commas and periods being • left out entirely. The letters are evidently In their correct order; but can yon make the new divisions and punctuations that will reveal the motto?

A gambler entered a room “A,” paying $4 out of a certain sum he had In his pocket. While in room A, he doubled the amount that remained to him. He paid $4 when he left room A, and paid $4 to enter B, where he again doubled the amount he then had in his pocket. He paid $4 leaving B, and $4 entering C; in C he again doubled his remaining sum. He paid $4 to leave C, and $4 to enter D, where he made another doubling. When he left D, he paid $4, and then found he had nothing left. How much did he have at the start? The answer;

The gambler had $11.25 to start. He paid $4 to enter A, reducing his total to $7.25. Doubling the $7.25 gave him $14.50. He paid $4 leaving A, and $4 entering B. leaving him $6.50, which he doubled to sl3. Less $4 leaving B, and less $4 entering C, left him $5. This he doubled to $10; then spent $4 leaving C and $4 entering D. His total in D was $2; he doubled It to $4 and then spent the $4 leaving D, which left him with nothing. Note—Friday, through an error, the answer to the above puzzle was printed. Today both the puzzle and answer are shown. This is shown again and again by such letters as Mrs. Robinson writes as well as by one woman telling another. These women know what it did for them. It is surely worth your trial.
