GREEN VEGETABLES DROP lON MARKET Tomato Prices’Jump to $1,75 a Bushel, Turnip home grown celery anJ spinach slumped at the city market today. Turnips fell from $1 a bushel to 76 and 90 cents; celery from 75 cents a bunch to GO cents and spinach from $1 a bushel to 60 cents or about 5 cents a pound. Tomatoes, after a week of decline jumped from $1 a bushel to $1.60 and $1.75. Lettuce was 6 cents a pound for shipped and 10 cents a pound for hot house. Other vegetables were: cucumbers, 60 cents a dozen; cabbage 3 cents a pound; oyster plant 36 cents a bunch; green beans, two pounds for 15 cents; shell-out beans 15 cents a pound. Parsnips, $1 a bushel or 3 to 5 cents a pound; radishes 15 cents a dozen; mangoes 76 cents a dozen; new sage 5 cents a bunch; mustard plant three pounds for 10 cents; green tomatoes 65 cents a bushel; Jonathon and Grimes Golden were bringing from four to six pounds for 25 cents in the fruit market. Duchess pears were 60 cents a bushel: crabapples, 60 cents a peck; Michigan blue grapes, 5 and cents a pound; peaches five pounds for 25 cents and jelly plums six pounds for 25 cents. Capitol Ave., night manager, told police he heard a crash and thought the building fell in. When he reached the rear door the truck was standing on end down the rear steps to the cellar. No one was around and the garage door was open and light on in the rear. Chester Long, Broadway Hotel, driver of the truck for H. P. Redman. 914 N. Delaware St., told tht- police he allowed the truck to stand at night in the yard in rear of the hotel and someone must have given if a push down the incline.
GAME LEAGUE TO MEET National Bill for Hunting Licenses Interests Nimrods. The twelfth ai.nual meeting of the Indiana Fish, Game and Forest League, will be held in the Palm room of the Claypool, Oct. 23. The league now is composed of sixty associations. _ The outstanding question of interest before these clubs is the Public Shooting Ground and Game Kefuge Bill pending in Congress, which provides for $1 United States hunting license to lie issued at any postoffice; 40 per cent of the proceeds to be used for purchasing game refuges; 40 per cent to be used for protection purposes, and 20 per cent for general administration and supervision. SMOKE BAN CONSIDERED Compromise Witli Council Desired by . Citizens’ Committee. Citizen's smoke abatement committee met today at the Chamber of Commerce to consider the new smoke ordinance written by city councilmen. It is understood the committee is favorable to portions of the ordinance and will discuss ways and means whereby a compromise might be made with the council. A meeting with the councilmen will be held Thursday evening in the office of Councilman Walter Wise, 206 Indiana Trust Bldg. Harding Memorial Service The birthday of Warren G. Harding. Xov. 2. will be observed at Logansport with a memorial meeting held under the direction of the Republican district committee. Senator James E. Watson will speak. Plans are being made by Republican organizations to observe, the birthday of Theodore Roosevelt, Oct. 27. Indiana Trustees Discuss Plan Another meeting of trustees of Indiana University is expected to be called following the continued discussion of the plan for the university to absorb the Indiana Dental College at an informal meeting of the university trustees at the Claypoo] Monday night. Tragedy which entered into the life of a minister who married an actress, was brought to light today with the suicide of the Rev. John William Jones, Episcopal pastor of Hutchinson, Kas.
