Subscriptions of $12,000, wiping out the church debt, have been made within the past ten days by members of the Barth Place M. E. Church, the Rev. D. L. Thomas, pastor, announced today. Re-dedication services were held Sunday by Bishop F. D. Leete. Assisting him were Dr. Harry Andres King, D. D., the Rev. O. YV. Flfer and Dr. C. E. Bacon. A platform meeting was held in the afternoon at 2:30. Dr. C. W. Bacon presiding. Epworth Hall was dedicated at 6. Dr. King preached at the evening worship. FOOD PRICES NOW HIGHER IN CITY Ten Per Cent Increase Is Noted by Officials. Retail food prices averaged an increase of 10 per cent in Indianapolis from Sept. 15, 1022, to Sept. 15. 1923, the bureau of labor statistics announced at Washington today. Prices jumped 1 per cent between Aug. 15 and Sept. 15 this year. The September prices are 47 per cent higher than in 1913, the bureau States. Advance since 1913 was 59 1 per cent in Richmond. Va.; 58 per cent in Washington. D. C.: 53 per cont in Fall River. Mass., and New Haven, Conn.; 48 per cent in St. Louis, Mo.; 45 in New Orleans, 43 in Los Angeles and 40 in Jacksonville, Fla., and Kansas City, Mo. FEDERAL GRAND I JURY IN SESSION
Miscellaneous Cases to Be Considered Only, Is Belief, The Federal gland jury convened today for a session of about one month. It was believed that only matters which have been pending for some time will be considered. The jury cannot remain in session after Nov. 3 the last day of the present court term. Rumors that affairs of Governor .fie Cray and the Dollings case would be taken up at this time were believed to be without foundation. It is probable that another grand Jury will be called in January. Liquor law violations and postal cases &xe expected to take up the greater part of the present session. GEORGE REMUS LIQUOR CASE IS TRANSFERRED Will Be Heard in Circuit Court at Shelby ville. By Timet Special BHELBYVILLE, Ind.. Oct. B.—The case of George Remua, attorney, Cincinnati, Ohio, charged with transporting liquor, was transferred from city court today to Circuit Court. Remus gave cash bond of SI,OOO. The case will be set for hearing shortly after Dec. 17. Recently a quanity of whisky was found in an abandoned touring car belonging to Mrs. Remus following an accident. Remus came here, claimed the car and was arrested. Mrs. Remus later appeared and obtained the release of her husband and the car. DEATH OF MOTHER IS FATAL SHOCK TO SON By Timet Special EVANSVILLE, Ind.. Oct. B.—News of the death of his mother here, telephoned to Adolph Bierbrodt at South Haven, Yfich., Sunday, resulted in the son dying from nervous shock. Mrs. Bierbrodt was 80 years old. She set off the alarm clock, hut when he awoke he couldn’t see the ioke. He hurled the clock at his wife, and. during a struggle for possession of a revolver the woman had armed hersefl With, Thomas was shot through the abdomen. Sunday night Thomas was near death.
