BAPTIST CHURCHES HOLD ELECTION OF FEDERATION HEADS The Future Is Big With Hope,' Declares Speaker at Annual Meeting, "The fftture for the Baptist Church is big with hope,” declared Dr. C. M. Dinsmore, general superintendent of the Indiana Baptist convention, Monday night at the annual meeting of Federated Baptist Churches of Indianapolis at the Temple Baptist Church, Fremont Ave. and Parkway Blvd. George F. Woody of Woodruff Place M. E. Church was re-elected president of the Federated Churches. Other officers: Vice president, Dr. J. E, Sharp, Tabernacle Baptist Church; secretary, Mrs. R. E. Mathews, Thir-ty-First Street Baptist Church; treasurer, Leon Joyce, Woodruff Place Baptist Church. The executive committee consists of the foregoing officers and Dr. J. W. Webb, Emerson Ave. Baptist Church; H. F. Melock, Tuxedo Park Baptist Church: Charles G. Mount, Jfirst Baptist Church: Mrs. H. R. Waldo, Second Baptist Church, and Mrs. J. J. Gilchrist, College Ave. Baptist Church. Two hundred and sixty-one delegates from twenty-three churches were present. Miss Willa B. Walker, director of the Baptist foreign center work, introduced the Rev. Paul Brindus, pastor of the center, and Joe Telago, student of the Louisville Baptist seminary, who will assume the charge of the Rev. Brindus. The Rev. Brindus will leave soon to continue his work in Ohio.

The Scientech Club will provide without compensation three members to serve on the technical committee provided in the original smoke abatement ordinance if it passes and officials desire the cooperation, it was decided Monday at a meeting of the club at the Chamber of Commerce. The ordinance as originally written says that each member of the technical committee shall receive S6OO annually. Miss Luba Weinshank. niece of Theodore Weinshank, native of Russia, who has just been in this coun try seven weeks, spoke on conditions in her native land. She is employed at present as an electrb-mechanical engineer. SEVEN BOOZE ARRESTS Night Riders’ Charge Young Man Had Bottle. Roy Shelly, 22. of 1204 E. Washington St., was arrested by Sergeant O’Connor and night riders who said they found him with a half pint of whisky In, his pocket Samuel King, 33, of 226 W. Wyoming St.,\ was arrested by Criminal Court Investigator Grover Hinton and Patrolman Reilley. Hi/iton said he saw King place several bottles of white mule in the ash in the rear of his home. Lewis, 27, of 3134 Col-' lege Ave.; Ben Bennett, 48, of 926 Pomeroy St., and Alma Bennett, colored. of 926 Pomeroy St., and Henry Peachee, 52, of 507% Massachusetts Ave. MARKET TO BE IMPROVED v Two Sets of Plans Ordered for Remodeling Equipment. First steps in remodeling of the city market were started today after the board of works late Monday ordered two sets of plans, one estimated at SIOO,OOO and the other $225,000, prepared by Frank Hunter, city architect. Hunter’s estimate for anew sanitation system with a refrigeration system is $20,000. Wiring would cost SB,OOO, plumbing $20,000 and heating $12,000, he said. Colleagues Mourn Death of Minister REV. J. D. GARRISON More than one thousand persons, including thirty ministers, attended the funeral of the Rev. J. D. Garrison, pastor of the North Park Christian Church, held in the church at Kenwood Ave. and Twenty-ninth St. Monday. Rev. Garrison died Saturday at his home, 2940 Boulevard Place.

CITY OFFICIALS TO RIDEINTAXICABS Paradox Claimed by Wise to Be ' More Economical Than Owning Cars, A number of city couneilmen desiring increased efficiency in city departments and to keep expenditures down would eliminate all city machines and use taxicabs on official business as one of the first steps, it was indicated today, following a resort from Councilman Walter Wise, Monday night. Wise and Ju'dge Wilmeth recently returned from a tour of eastern cities where such a plan is in general use. He said the taxi plan would cost Indianapolis approximately only S7OO to SI,OOO a month, and would result in great saving. A psycopathic ward in connection with the city hospital also was favored by Wise in his report. Bemd and Ray Mix Personal differences between Councilman Otto Ray and Theodore Bernd reached a climax in the council meeting in the ante room Monday. Ray is said to have torn up some tickets to the boxing show and have thrown them in Bernd’s face. Bernd is chairman of the boxing commission. A measure to authorize paving of North St. from Pine to Noble Sts., over remonstrance of a majority of property owners was killed five to four as the factions came to a test vote.’ Councilman Wise was granted more
