Home of Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham Contains All to Be Desired in House of Medium Proportions
DESIRE 10 BUD DOMES BROADENS WITH EACH YEAR More Than One-Third Local Populace Lives in Its Own Abode, Since time began, people have craved a shelter of their own—lt Is as much a part of tradition as any characteristic that can be attributed to human beings—and never does this feeling seem to leave. Never do people seem to outgrow It—ln fact, the desire for a suitable home grows stronger with each generation. There Is an Inspiration In the knowledge that a man has acquired a home that Is a pleasure and a comfort to him and his family. In Indianapolis 34.8 per cent of the people now own their homes. Although not all have the desire to build a house, yet there is Inherent In many that very keen deelre to own a structure that embodies all the heart cherishes. People who have built will always advise prospective builders to employ the services of an architect, who wilt not only draw plans, get bids and superintend construction, but save the builder money In many ways. Fermor S. Cannon, architect, 21 Virginia Ave., says that the most marked thing In the situation of home designing as he sees It Is the desire of the owner to have every possible convenience Incorporated Into It “There Is a tendency, too, on the part of the builder to Insist more on the selection of lasting materials. The cost of the construction makes It Imperative for the average builder to so build that his home may be a pleasure for many years to come.” PURCHASEDFCOAL URGEDBYDEALER
Building Material Sales Reported of High Order, "There's nothing to be gained by delay,” is the sum and substance of what every coal dealer In the city will tell the consumer. Noting the recent Increase for prices, the consumer lw led to believe that the dealer !s probably right. Al Hitzelberger of the Hitzelberger Fuel and Supply Company at Roach St., and the Canal reports a big movement of Virginia and Pocahontas. However, his supplies of both are ample to fill all orders. Like other dealers he has no anthracite. "Moving of our building materials keeps us busy as we have added cement blocks to our line of building materials. We do not manufacture the blocks but get our supply from the Gibralter plant.” "A great deal of Interest has been manifested in the industrial show to be given at the Riverside Dance Hall on Oct. 16, 17 and 18, under direction of the Northern Indianapolis Business Men's Association. Our company will have an exhibit at the show which will be open to all.” “Indianapolis products have been recognized the world over and these displays show the progress that has been made along these lines just as surely as the enormous Increase In the sale of building materials marks the rapidity with which the city Is developing'

L View of the bedroom which is lovely with Ivory furniture and rose appointments. 2. The exterior of the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Cunningham, located In an attractive new neighborhood at 623 Carlisle. Livable, indeed, la the little cottage of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Cunningham, 623 Carlisle St. The plan includes a sun parlor, living room, dining room and two bedrooms with connecting bath, a large, well-arranged pantry and small back porch opening from the kitchen. The entry to the house, which Is of wide siding painted white, Is located on the south, with a vine-cov-ered lattlo framing the doorway. The lower part of the sun parlor is of brick, lending an appearance of stability, while the massed shrubbery and window boxes of flowers add much to the general attractiveness. No Space Is Wasted The living room of long, narrow proportions, Is entered from the main entrance. There Is no waste space taken up with halls and entrance ways. This feature of utilizing every bit of space Is characteristic of the whole house. The comfortable, upholstered tapestry davenport and chairs bespeak hospitality, which is really the keynote of the whole home. A piano and gate-leg table of mahogany give an air of dignity and richness to the room. The sun parlor extends across the front of the house and is accessible from the living room. Wicker furniture is used with good effect. The chaise lounge and comfortable chairs Invite one to spend leisure hours here. Glass curtains of natural colored pongee catch and seem to hold the brightness and cheer of the sunlight. Bedrooms Attractive Just north of the living room and opening from it Is one of the bedrooms, lovely with Its rose appointments, effectively contrasting the Ivory furniture of the room. The choice of furnishings Is particularly tasty. The bedroom, connecting this and the east bedroom, is small, but very complete In fixture equipment. The floor Is of a very delicate patterned tile. Mahoney In rather massive proportion Is used In the east bedroom with bed of the four-poster type and dresser to correspond. The wall paper of this room Is attractive In coloring and design and well suited to the room. The same thing may be said of the
My Most Interesting Case The Times has asked Indianapolis lawyers to bell about the most unusual affairs they have been involved In. Here is No. 8: ————— By MARTIN M. HUGO *
A certain humane officer, one of the first Indianapolis ever maintained, became Intensely Interested in a circus of performing animals then being shown In the Cycloraxno, on the site of the Traction Terminal Station. One of the chief acts was a hot air balloon ascension, with a big monkey performing on the trapeze dangling below. The balloon would soar away with the animal cavorting on the bar, but St was always chased and the actor returned. The humane official took exception to the way the monkey disported Itself while off duty. It would take sticks and poke a little monkey confined In a cage, or try to pull off Its tall If It could catch the little njpnkey off guard. Well, the officer, full of the righteous wrath of public regulation, went to city court and wanted to swear out a warrant against Jocko —that was the performer's name. James A. Collins, now judge of Criminal Court, but then a young attorney serving as deputy prosecutor in city court, fixed him up a

The homelike living room Is comfortably furnished In upholstered furniture. window draperies which are very harmonious and artistlo. Dining Room Formal The dining room, the most formal In the house. Is beautiful with Its rich mahogany furniture. The buffet, china closet, table and tapestry seated chairs are so well fitted Into the room that they produce an effect of perfect balance. The kitchen Is conveniently an ranged. A snowy white range and kitchen table show up well against the blue and whit© linoleum. The adjoining pantry Is large enough to afford plenty of convenient storing room for china, utensils and supplies. This homey little place Is one of the many In this neighborhood of pretty little houses that have all been built in the last few months. W. C. T. U. AID IS URGED School Board Mootings ShouJd Bo Attended by Women, She Says. “The W. C. T. U. is not doing Itß duty unless it sends meml>en to sit in the room where the Indianapolis school board is meeting, and see what is going on there,” declared Mrs. Felix T. McWhlrter, editor of “The Message,” offeial organ of the W. C. T. U., at the county convention of the temperance organization. Mrs. McWhlrter lamented the action of the school Board Monday night by which control of nutrition work of the schools was placed in the hands of the board of health. She intimated that a fight against the action would be wagod by organizations in the city. GUN AFFRAY IS REPORTED Flashlight Srn and Shots Heard, Woman Notified Police. Police Investigated reports of shooting In the bottoms of Pleasant Run near 4603 E. Washington St., on report of Mrs. C. D. Jenney of the above address, who said she saw a flashlight, a crowd of men and heard several shots. Harvey Coonse, 4515 E. Washington St., said boys swim down at that point, and the noise was probably the back-firing of the automobile they were In.
warrant charging cruelty to animals, alleging that ‘‘one Jocko So and So did then and there,” and so on. The warrant was actually given to a policeman, who went over and served It. The owner called me up, and asked what he should do. I told him to go ahead and take the defendant to court. Sure enough, the next morning when Judge Dailey mounted the bench, there we all were. “‘What’s the next case?” asked the judge. “Here, your honor,” I replied, Indicating my client, leading the monkey on a chain. The monkey had on a little red cap and a blue jacket. ‘Where’s the defendant,” was the next question, and on the prosecutor silently indicating the monkey, the judge almost had apoplexy. Well, when he got through discussing contempt of court and about half a dozen other crimes he was going to charge the humane official with, he discharged the defendant without further evidence. The monkey continued to ride the trapeze, but whether he desisted poking the little monkey the humane officer never bothered to fisd out.
PITTSBURGH WATER DEAIER PRODUCES INSTANTRESULTS Thermostatic Control Regulates Temperature at All Times. At no season of the year Is an j adequate supply of hot water as i much a convenience and satisfaction j as during the cold days of winter, j Then it qualifies as a luxury supreme j when the bath tub, the lavoratorles, the laundry tubs may be filled with ; piping hot water at the mere turn of ! a faucet. The Pittsburgh Automatic) Gas ! Heater, sold by the Citizens Gas Com- j pany, has been favored by the coml>ony because It not only gives as much water as Is wanted, but gives It as hot as wanted. The Thermostat, or temperature regulator, mechanically governs the amount of heat Imparted and always keeps It up to the proper heat. The Pittsburg uses gas— a most convenient fuel. A small pilot light automatically lights the powerful burners when a hot water faucet is opened. The popular size heater has a capacity of three gallons a minute and is moderately priced. Another thing in favor of this heater Is that It can easily be installed In connection with old plumbing and give Just as good service as when put j In anew house. Os all conveniences that have come about through modern ar.d scientific j inventions there is none that has yet! surpassed the Pittsburgh, which per- j mlts the entire family to enjoy all of I the hot water needed during the whole twenty-four hours.
OIL BURNERS ARE BECOMINGPOPULAR Williams Oii-o-Matic Recommended by Long & Cos. OH burners used in heating plants to eliminate coal and other furnace fuels are constantly Increasing, not only In the number, but In efficiency. W. D. Long of W. D. Long & Cos., 144 E. Ohio St., has given the following five points as absolutely necessary if the burner Is to give the maximum service. An oil burners must be able to handle all kinds of oil, from low grade fuel oil to kerosene, without oontinual readjustment. The oil burner must have a positive and minimum quantity of air and this must be supplied evenly and at all times only by a blower arrangement which will forcibly Inject air Into the fuel. The oil must be completely atomized so that the globules will give complete combustion. The oil cannot be vaporized since the heating value is lost in that cask The oil must be burned In suspension before it comos into contact with any heating surface. Lastly the oil must be burned In the presence of a refractory material such as brick or similarly lined firepots for otherwise the furnace will probably suffer. "We feel that the points Just mentioned are well balanced In the Williams Oil-O-Matic that we carry. But no matter how efficient the burner may be it will never give satisfaction if the heating plant is in poor condition,” Mr- Long said.

Cherubs et al. Had No Bath in 49 Years
O ME WHAT the worse for the wear and tear of time, figures of “Columbia” waving the flag, fat little cherubs, "Justice,” Roman court scenes and much brass work emerged from a total eclipse on the celling of the Superior Court room of Judge James M. Leathers as workers applied cloth and water today. For the first time since 1874, when an Italian pointer lay on his back and laboriously sketched the paintings for an unappreciative Hoosier audience, the coal smoko and dust was removed. Judge Leathers has ordered a complete overhauling of his court room. Jurors will have to get along on the old chairs, he decided, upon learning that chairs to match the ones bought for sls now cost S6O. Statues of “Time” and the “Goddess Minerva” smiled grimly down under masks of dirt awaiting their first bath In forty-nine years.
