STOKES DIVORCE • MOTIVED Millionaire Faces Indictment for Alleged Conspiracy, gy tfnited Pres* CHICAGO, Sept. 21. —Indictments are probable In the charges made by Mrs. Helen Elwood Stakes that her millionaire husband, W$ E. D. Stokes, sought to bribe a *csre of persons to testify she had been an inmate of the notorious Everlelfeh Club of Chicago. State’s Attorney Crowe, who is Investigating the case, said today he would not hesitate to ask the grand jury for Indictments If the evidence JiAtifled It. Several of the twenty-two persons named by Mrs. Stokes as having been approached by her husband were Questioned. A 'former housekeeper, negro servants of the club and a physician under examination by Assistant State's Attorney Wharton, charged a men giving the name of Stokes had offered them money to testify Mrs. S|okes had been an Inmate of the raort The man brought photographs of Mrs. Stokes and offered dates and other data, the witnesses charged. Plans to ruin her name by showing she had lived In the resort were concocted some time before the famous divorce trials In New York, Mrs. Stokes said. School Budgei Mooting The executive committee of the Martbn County Sunday School Council of Religious Education was to meet today at the Y. M. C. A. Matters pertaioing to the policy and budget of the council will be presented.
