OFFICERS BELIEVE AUTO PIRATE GANG HAS BEEN BROKEN
Arrest of Three Men Leads to Theory of Party of 'Hijackers,' Part of an alleged gang of automobile thieves who commit “Hi-Jack” robberies on the country roads after which the cars are either wrecked or deserted was said to have been unt overed in the arrest of Edward Dunman, 16. of 823 Chadwick St., Joseph Smith, 19, of 120 W. Michigan St., and Earl Northern, 20, of 823 Chadwick *?*., charced at the city prison with vehicle taking. They were arrested by detectives McMurtry and McGlenn, Landers and Klaiber, who say the arrest of another member~of the gang is expected momentarily. Landers and Klaiber arrested Dunman Saturday afternoon after watching him attempt to steal two large cars which he was unable to start. On Sunday Sept. 2, according to Karl Northern, the party drove to Martinsville, in a car stolen from George IV. Southerland, 1266 TV. Twenty-Ninth St., and while there stole a car belonging to Sheriff Scott, of Morgan County. That car was brought to Indianapolis, later driven Muncie, Ind., and wrecked on the return trip about four miles east of Dunman stated most of the cars stolen were driven to the Northern srarage and on one occasion Northern Offered for SSO a large car. Dunman aid he stole a Buick sedan and drove it to the residence for the money. Detectives say a battle reported by F TV. Fansworth. 2535 E. Michigan St., in which he and hts friend TV. H. Howard, of 2406 E. Washington St., engaged with “Hi-Jackers” on the Rockville road, about four miles east of Danville. Ind.. Sunday morning was no doubt with the same outfit. DOCTOR, ESCAPING DEATH IN MW, IS FOUND ASLEEP
His Auto Jumped Curb and Turned Over, He Tells Police. Escaping fatal injuries when his car ran over the curb, across a lawn 250 feet, down an embankment at Pleasant Run Parkway and turned over, Dr. John K. Kingsbury, 72 Irvington Ave., was found Sunday night, asleep at home and uninjured, by police who were investigating the accident. Kingsbury was cut on the hand. Charges of assault and battery, failure to stop after an accident and of improper driving are pending against j Clarence Cole, 40, of 935 Dorman St., as the result of an accident Sunday at West and Washington Sts., when a red speedster struck Robert Newton, 50. of 512 TV. Pearl St., as he was crossing Washington St. A knee cap was broken. The car was found in a garage at Cole's home with license plates taken off. Cole later gave himself up. Hilda Lancaster, 5, of 2426 Bellefontaine St., was bruised about the head and her arm was broken when she was struck by an automobile driven by Herman Davis. 26, of 2744
