NO HOOSIERS ARE REPORTED DEAD IN QUAKE AREA Several, However, Have Not Been Heard From Since Disaster. As far as can be ascertained no Hoosiers have perished in the Jap earthquake disaster, although many relatives have not heard from Indianlans In the quake zone. Those reported safe are Misses Tomasie Allen and Marie Dltmars of Franklin, Mrs. Dorothy Davis, a former La Porte girl and wife of Commander H. C. Davis of the American embassy at Tokio; Miss Harriet Rawles, Carthage, who was at Yokohama, and James Wade Emerson, Jr., of Yokohama, who has a brother at Vincennes. / The Rev. W. P. Minton, foreign missionary secretary of the Christian Church, has received word that all missionaries o' that church are safe. Those who- have not been heard from, and it is feared may' have perished, are Mrs. Robert Manigal, formerly Miss Relma Thompson of Peru, located at Yokohama; Dr. and Mrs. H. B. Benninghoff and Misses Emma and Winifred Adcock, all formerly of Franklin; Mrs. Frank Metcalf, daughter of Mrs. Charles E. Truss of Swayzee. The Rev. Alvah H. Sholty, United Brethern minister in Tokio, brother of Dr L. O. Sholty of Wabash with his wist and son have not been heard from. Both teach in a mission school at Tokio.
REPORT OF GUN FRAY MYSTERY Patrolman's 'Battle' Not Heard by Residents. An investigation was started today' by Chief of Police Herman Rikhoff into the story' of a gun battle and burglar call sent to police headquarters at 2 a. m. today by' Patrojman Walter Jackson. Jackson declared that he noticed three suspicious looking men Inspecting a filling station at Thirtieth and Bellefontaine Sts. When they saw him, Jackson said, one flashed something that shined like a gun. He began to fire at the fleeing men. One of them yelped, and two shots were returned at him. Boy Charged With Trespass Detectives today questioned Ralph Whaley, 18, who said his home is in Peru, Ind., and who was arrested early today on the Lake Erie & Western railroad tracks by Detective Fisher.
