PASTOR PLEABSFOII ADJUSTMENTS IN ANTHRACITE FIELDS Public Should Not Be Required to Suffer During Strike, Dr, Brown Says, "Labor Sunday this year comes in the midst of an anthracite strike, which demonstrates the danger of unwise propagrandism,” Dr. Lewis Brown, pastor of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, stated in a Labor day sermon Sunday. "There is sympathy everywhere for the down trodden and oppressed toiler,” the Rev. Brown continued. “But the matter is one that should be rationally adjusted between operator and laborer. The public should not be required to suffer when it is no wise blamable. "Homes without warmth, factories without fuel, general business prostrated and retarded, a nation in distress, should not be the penalty between man and man. “The Golden Rule practicaly applied would change alb this and the church today upholds the gospel of the Carpenter who, set forth the true course by precept and example. “By following Him all concerns will be wisely conducted and life will reveal the aspect of spiritual helpfulness. The commandment of love is sadily needed. Force can never conquer mankind. ,Only by love can j all things endure. "From distressed millions comes up j i the cry that the God of love will j I reign in the souls of men and make j , this earth once more the fit habita- | tlon for His children. “This and this supremely is the mes- j 1 sage for labor Sunday,” Dr. Brown j • ! said. / OUR RELIGION MUST BE SEEN Pastor Asks Actions Be Allowed to Reflect the Faith. “Religion is not worth much un- j less It can be seen,” the Rev. Charles ! H. Gunsolus said in a course of a , sermon Sunday night at the Bright- j wood Congregational Church. “Lamps do not talk, but they do J • shine,” he said. "So let your actions j shine out your religion. Let the main sermon of your life be illustrated by j your conduct and it shall not fall to ' be illustrious. “Jesus is the light of the world, | and from Him all light emanates Christ. A light shut up tightly in a lantern only soots and burns that j which contains It. So It Is with the j souL It is Its nature to shine forth and give light to darkness. The light in our soul must be kept burning brightly. "Let your light so shine before me that they may see your goods and glorify your faith in heaven.”

UNIVERSAL. LOVE ASKED Pastor Declares Unselfishness Is Above Profits. "When nations say there Is more than patriotism, when employers say there is more than profits, -when employes say there is more than wages, then we realize time unselfishness through a universal Love." declared the Rdv. O. B. Moor, Sunday in his • eermon on "World Brotherhood” at the Immanuel Reformed Church. “The foundation of love needs to be beneath our own lives,” he asserted. "If love is struck deep into the hearts of men and women of a community It would build it up. When there is any happiness in Indianapolis, it is because of love." MARY E.
