Somnes to Direct Little Theatre; Young People Become Film Actors

HICKMAN EORGE SOMNES, a member of the Stuart Walker Company and former director of the Littje Theatre, will again assume the directorship of the Little Theater Society of Indiana, it was announced today. An official letter bearing the name of Robert C. Winslow, treasurer of the society, announces the return of Somnes to the directorship after the completion of the tour of “The Book of Job.” Somnes plays the lead in this production. It is thought that Somnes will be able to resume his work with the Litttle Theatre after first of the year. Winslow’s letter is in part as follows: “The season of 1923-1924, with plans for the biggest year the Littlle Theatre Society has ever seen, is here. Assurance can be given the membership by the board of directors that the program for the season is having most careful thought and consideration by the board. "We are very happy to announce that the board has been fortunate in securing the return of George Somnes as director. He will assume his work after the completion of the tour of the 'Book of Job.’ “Steps a fß also being taken to locate permanently tn our own home. Announcement of the progress of the plan will be made from time to time. “Vacations are nearly over and now is the time we must get together and work for the new year.” -I--I-I.rK-al Young People Making Movie Comedies A number of movie comedies are being made under the title of “The Hoosier Comedies,” with several well known young people In the cast. The studio is at ID E. Wilkins St. J. Grahame Thatcher is director and has had professional experience with several large movie corporations. Among those playing leads are Miss Mary Corothers, Dorothy Farley, both cf Indianapolis: George Harris, who Is said to look like Charlie Chaplin, Heeza Frost, John McGuire, Stauley R. Gitbens and others. All of the series will be made in Indianapolis and vicinity. The ball park, Garfield park, Ravenswood and other places will be recognized in the movies. It is planned to present the movies at leading local theaters. -i- -I* -INew Bill at Palace Runs to Comedy and Dance Comedy holds the chief position on the new week-end bill at the Palace. It isn’t so much what Jane Barger and her lengthy assistant, Jerome Jackson, does, but it is the way they put over their stuff. Jackson might pass as the tallest man on earth. He might pass as a human telegraph pole. His efforts to act like a man of ordinary height furnishes most of the fun. Burke, Walsh and Nana have one cf “those and them” acts, meaning a little talk, some dancing, some more talk, some music and the like. The set consists of two men and a woman. Each one is a good dancer. They work rapidly. Result: Pleasing. Annette, a youthful singer, makes the mistake of going through her routine without introducing some novelties. Mathews, a mechanic was kidnaped by seven masked men last night and taken to a lonely spot near Red Fork. Mathews said the abductors were preparing to flog him, when he escaped. The men kicked and beat Mathews, breaking one of his ribs and severely bruising his body.

FAIRBANKS ANNUAL PICNIC ON MONDAY Unique Events on Program at Turner Park, The second annual piciuc of the Fairbanks-Morse Athletic Association Monday at Turner Park promises to rival the first, if the prog-ram issued today isn’t spoiled by the weather. From 10 a. in. until a baseball game at 3:30 p. m. the picnickers will be kept busy with field events, horseshoe contests, ladles' baseball game, dancing with music by the Perrott Entertainers, a casting contest and a regular old-fashioned dinner. Prizes are offered by the association for all events. Whistling, hay-picking, crawfish race, nail-driving, football-kicking, egg race, wheel tag and shoe and stocking contests have been planned.
