CLUB FORMED TO , BOOST JOHNSON FORPRESIDENCY First Movement of Kind In / State Started in Bloomington, By Timet Special BLOOMINGTON, Aug. 24. The first organized movement in Indiana to bring about the nomination of Senator Hiram W. Johnson for the presidency in 1924 has been started here with the formation of a Johnson-for-President club. The club 'was formed at a meeting at the home of R. L. Morgan, attorney. Officers are Walter Allen, president; Q. H. Smith, vice president; Hubert J 5. Foutty, secretary, and Charles Engledow, treasurer. “We want a man whose Internation aJ policy is well understood throughoit the world, that America is for America,” a resolution adopted by the <jlub said. “We want one who stands Jat-footedly against any form of a league of nations, pact, alliance or world court proposed by the bankrupts and double-crossers of Europe, a man whose voice when he speaks will impress and be in keeping with the voice of Washington, Lincoln, Cleveland and Roosevelt, and will erM**ld like the voice of America.” | Johnson was a candidate in the Republican presidential primary in Indiana in 1920. He ran second in a field of four, being led only by Gen. Leonard Wood. CITIZENS PROTEST GARAGE West Indianapolis Chic League Holds Conference. Mayor Shank and the city park beard wiy be asked by the citizens of West Indianapolis to prohibit the erection of a repair shop and garage fer the sanitary commission at Kentucky Ave. and White River, it was announced today following a meeting of members of the Enterprise Civic League of West Indianapolis at the heme of Frank Turner, 1146 Blaine Ave. C. J. Lahrman, president of the league, said the ground there was cnly good for flood prevention and park purposes. Steps will be taken to establish a public park on the site.
