GOMPERS RAPS GOVERNMENT BY FEDERAL COURTS Labor Leader Criticises In- ' junctions and Discusses Coal Strike.^ By United Pre * MILWAUKEE, Wis., Aug. 23. Strike of bituminous miners in sympathy with threatened anthracite walkout would make the most powerful strike in the coal industry the world has ever known, Samuel Gompers. president of the American Federation of Labor, declared today. In answer to a direct question while addressing the International Photograph Engravers Union late last night. Gompers refused to say whether he believes such a strike will materialize, but intimated he thinks the anthracite miners are justified in their threatened action Sept. 1. Assails Injunction Use of the injunction as a weapon against strikers was bitterly assailed by the labor leader who prophesied impeachment of Federal judges who so use these injunctions. “The time will come when the working people will take matters into their own hands and impeach before the bar of the House of Representafehes any judge Infringing the constitutional rights of the workers,’’ Gompers declared, branding the injunction in labor strikes as a method “of getting by indirectly what cannot be got directly.” Tells of Criticism In answer to inquiry whether he wanted Federal Judge G. A. Carpenter of northern Illinois impeached for issuing a recent injunction, he declared: “If the cap fits let Judge Carpenter wear it. I have made a general statement that is true.” "Even Presidents of the United States are criticised.” Gompers said, referring to Judge Carpenter, who recently criticised him for attacking the injunction. Music of All Kind Found on New Bill at Palace
By WALTER D. HICKMAN. Music to cure headache. Music to make you laugh. Music to make you dance and music to make you happy. Such brands of music you will find on the new bill at the Palace. The Chunghwa Three, billed as "China's only exponents of harmony and fun,” first appear in China garb, singing a China song. Then they sing English’s songs with the announcement that they hope we like ’em “more better.” The big surprise of the act comes when they put on kilts to do a Scotch number with a regular Harry Lauder fling. These men have chosen songs of pleasing melody and they know how to make each number o novelty affair. George Morton arrives on the stage announcing that “day by day his wife is getting more like an airplane—she is no good on earth.” Morton has a breezy line of chatter. His entire routine is smart and in good taste. His ukulqle stunt makes him land solid. Good work. Gertrude Barnes' first number is a little gem. It is a song about a lamp on milady’s dressing table. This number is beautifully costumed. The truth is every number is well dressed. Her burlesque on a chorus girl as she Is and isn’t is splendid. Real work. Elly is a female juggler; opens the show in about as interesting an act of this nature that I have seen for
