CIVIC CLUBS WILL ! HOLD PARLEY ON PHONE INCREASE t Executives and Utilities Committee of Federation Meet Today. A special meeting of the executive officers and public utilities committee of the Federation of Community Civic Clubs will be held at 6 p. m. today at the office of Edward O. Snethen, 416 Indiana Trust building, president of th,e organization. to consider what action the federation will take in regard to the Indiana Bell Telephone Company rate increase. Members of nearly all of the civic clubs' have expressed themselves as being opposed to the rate increase. “ICs absolutely an outrage,” declamß Robert Sloan, 2425 Shelby St., president of the Southeastern Civic Improvement Association. "There Is no need for the increase.” In rhany instances people are agitating a concentrated movement to have phones removed from the homes. A clerk of the Bell Telephone. Company informed a civic club member Thursday who had asked a phone extension in his home removed, “that the e.ompany expects to have 5,000 phones removed. Members of the executive board of the federation are: Edward O. Snethen, president; A. Le Roy Portteus, vice president; L. L. Fellows, second vice president, and John F. White, secretary-treasurer. The public utilities is composed of Sumner Clancy, Clarence E. Weir, Thomas P. Woodson and L. L. Miller. SAFETY SQUAD TO COVER FACTORIES Officers to Stage Preliminary Campaign, As preliminary to the drive to be launched in the public schools of the city immediately after they open the flr*t of September, the accident prevention division of the police traffic department will put on a campaign in the factories, clubs and among messenger and delivery boys during the last two weeks of this moftth in an attempt to obtain their cooperation as examples to school children. Traffic Officers Frank Owens, and Emmett Tolle. will lengthen their hours and make five or more talks a day to the factories and others to each them all, it was said. A film taken recently of the traffic ondltions and carrying several examples of how accidents are caused and how they can be averted will be ready fyr showing the coming week.
