PASTOR DECLARES THAT TRUE PRAYER ’ ISJGLECTED Rev, Fackler Urges People to Know the True God by Meditation, . “There are people that do not neglect their prayers, but. like the heathen, they do not pray to the true God,” the Rev. Louis C. E. Fackler, pastor of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, declared Sunday in a sermon on "True Prayer." “Then there are those,” he said, “who, when they do pray, do not really mean what they pray. Others may say that they do not have time to pray, hut every person, when feeling the heavy hand of grief or distress upon him. will take time to go somewhere to someone for comfort. “What a blessing and eternal comfort for those that know the true God and go to him in'truth. Those that do so or desire to do so. should know of the elements of true prayer.” The Rev. Fackler outlined the three elements of player as reverence of God, confession of unworthiness and perseverance. Reverence of God Is Important Essential Continuing, he said, “The first eleIment of prayer is reverence of God. Mow can those, who do not learn of God, learn to respect Him? Those that will not hea • the voice cannot learn of God. HoSv can they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? “The Scriptures spake to us concerning the greatness of God. Daniel recalls how God with His mighty hand brought the people out of Egyptian captivity. Look at God’s hand tn' action. Read of His wonderful works in the Scriptures and we. with the Psalmist, must say ‘How excellent is Thy name.’ His righteousness! Daniel prays. 'O. Lord, according to all Thy righteousness, I beseech Thee, let Thy anger and Thy fury be turned away from Thy city, Jerusalem.’ “Behold the great mercy of God. how he has prepared salvation for us in his beloved Son. That truly is mercy. Beholding the greatness of God we ought to respect Him. to reverence God. “Daniel said because of our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers. Jerusalem and Thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us. “When we look at what God has bestowed upon us. we must say, I am not worthy of the least of all these blessings. I am no more worthy to be called Thy child. “The prophet saw his unworthiness to be so great that he humbled himself in sackcloth and ashes. But man today is too proud even to humble himself before God. They think that they deserve the best that God has. They refuse to be told from the Bible their unworthiness. In our prayers Bid in our acts let us humble’ourselves before God.
Draws Great Lesson From the Prophet “See how the prophet continued in his perseverance. For about seventyyears the Israelites were in Babylon ian captivity and the p ophet looked for deliverance. He prayed, he persevered. See how Jacob, when wres tling with the angel, said I will not leave Thee except that Thou blessest me. D “The Lor,? tells us to pray without ceasing. That means not only to ask once or twice, but continually. See How Abrfeham, prayed and would not -cease and then when assured, waited long for the fulfillment of his prayer. A prayer that is repeated only once, or the Individual that becomes faint hearted lr. his praying needs much improvement. Be not weary in placing your petitions before God. “When you pray regard these elements; first of all consider the greatness of the true and Jiving God. God. the Father. Son and Holy Ghost. Then let the power of God humble you and open your eyes to your unworthiness. and the great mercy of God which He has for those that truly call Him Father. And finally exercise a perseverance in prayer which is pleasing to God. Such true prayers are heard and answered by God in a way that is best for us,” the Rev. Fackler said. SPIRITUAL POWER NECESSARY Rev. T. A. Hall Points Out Fleeting Life of Physical Side. "The physical side shall pass away, but the spiritual side lasts forever.” said the Rev. T. A. Hall, pastor of Brightwood Church of Christ, in his sermon Snday morning on "Mary and Martha.” He said the churches fall down when they lack spiritual power. IRIST PREPARES PLACE” Pastor Pleads for Followers for Christianity. In a sermon on "The Leadership of Christ,” Sunday, the Rev. C. P. Martin, pastor of Brookside United Brethren Church, said: “Because Christ wac willing to go on and prepare a place for all those who would accept Him as the Savior of the world, we cannot turn a deaf ear to his appeals for followers.” CHURCH HOLDS ANNUAL PICNIC Services Held in Conjunction With Outing at Columbia Park. Rose. “As we go back in church history we find that there were men and women who sought to uphold and defend the faith.” SPIRIT WILL ABOLISH FACTIONS Dr. Samuel Edward lying Preaches on Power of Holy Ghost. Factionalism can only be abolished by the power of the Holy Ghost, de : dared Dr. Samuel Edward Long, head of the Bible department of the Indiana Central College, in a sermon Sunday afternoon at Cadle Tabernacle. “Chick” Daugherty of Indianapolis dir'tcted the choir at the service. Only about 200 of the 1,200 members of the Gipsy Smith choir were present. SIN “SPIRITUAL 'DISEASE’’ Rev. Percy James Sees Christ As “Healing Physician.” “God wants us to be on fire for Jesus.” said the Rev. Percy James at the Roberts Park M. E. Church Sunday night. The Rev. James compared sin to modern disease. “Sin is a spiritual disease.” he said, “and Christ is the healing physician.” CHRISTIANS MUST GUARD IDEAL Rev. Orien W. Filer Declares People Responsible for God’s Charges. “Religious and social ideals are the treasurers to be carried and guarded by Christian people,” deolared the Rev. Orien W. Fifer. pastor of the Central Ave. M. E. Church, in his Sunday morning sermon. “We must guard the things God has given into our keeping,” he said.

DEALER SAYS LIFE OF TIRES SNOWS GREATLONGEVITY Local Agent of Lee Tires Sees Great Improvement in Service, As an indication of the progress made, or. rather, the pace maintained, in the quality development of tires, it is pointed out that ten years ago the ratio of tire consumption per year was filed at five tires per car, whereas today it is two tires or less. “In the old days," says Os K. Daniels, local representative of the Lee Tire and Rubber Company, “we used to run for cover when we saw a customer drive up in front of the store. We knew there was a kick coming. In many instances the customer was Justified in kicking, for tires were passing through an experimental stage. / “Today I hear very little complaint about tire service or mileage. Asa matter of fact, the tendency is the other way. Motorists are given to bragging about the mileage they get out of their tires. It certainly cannot be rightfully claimed thta tire manufacturers have not stepped right along with the progress of the motor car Industry as a whole. “It is an indication of the sincerity of the tire manufacturer that he always has been striving to solve the problems of the motorist for him. In other words, to give him a maximum mileage with a minimum of vexation and expense. When you stop to consider what tires were, even ten years ago, it seems to me the development has been wonderful. From an unwieldy foundation of elusive air and elastic rubber a strong utility has been evolved. Os course motorists still have the puncture to combat, but even this has been practically eliminated by the Lee Puncture Proof Pneumatic Tire.”
