As he started his car again, the women stepped in front of it. One wheel passed over Mrs. Harper’s left ankle, breaking both bones. She was also severely bruised. Mrs. Jessup suffered a cut over the left eye and her nose was Injured. Weeds Obscure View Two automobiles were in the repair shop today and George Whipple, Lafayette Heights, was suffering from a severe scalp wound and a deep cut in his left cheek, following a collision of his automobile with a truck driven by Walter Townsend, University Heights, at Raymond and Harding Sts. The truck turned over and Whipple’s car plunged into a ditch. The drivers said they could not see each other's car because of high weeds. Carriage Is Struck Clifford Hail. 33, 237 W. Vermont St., was arrested today on charges of assault and battery when the automobile he was driving struck a carriage occupied by Henry Tate, Mary Martin, and her daughters, Corliss Martin and Georgia Martin, all colored, 2120 W. Walnut St. The accident ocurred at Capitol Ave. and North St. Mrs. Martin and her daughters were taken to home in a city ambulance, slightly injured. Sarah Greenberg, 3, of 902 S. Illi-1 nols St., was slightly cut on the head | when, according to police, she ran in front of an automobile driven by James Poole, 811 S. Illinois St., near her home.

L. Bailey, 46 N. Pennsylvania St., reported motometers stolen. Delbert Winsted, 1128 N. New Jersey St., said he parked his automobile in front of 41 S. Capitol Ave.. and a thief took the tail light and switch. It was the third time the tail light had been stolen while the car was at this address. Catholics Open Convention Bu Times Special NOTRE DAME. Ind., Aug. 9. —Delegates from practically every state arrived here today to attend the opening session of the convention of the Catholic students mission crusade. The program will continue daily until Sunday. Meetings are to be held at the University of Notre Dame. New Hampshire Man Sought The police today were searching for Snead H. Pederson, 24, of 277 Central Ave.; Dover, N. H., who disappeared from his'home some days ago. Ben Turpin’s Latest Movie Burlesque Here
Comedy is the keynote of the majority of acts scheduled to be on the new bill opening at the Palace today. Frank Wilcox, assisted by Dana Desbora and John Boyd present “An Emergency Case,” a comedy of situations and dialogue that was written by Vincent Lawrence. ' Jean Sothern, a former movie star who played Myra in the Fox serial ‘Mysteries of Myra,” returns to the stage in ‘ Girls Will Be Boys,” written by Paul Gerard Smith and the music arranged by J. Edwin Liebman. Count Perrone, baritone, joins Trix Oliver, a soprano, in putting on a musical turn. “Four Bell Hops" Is a novelty acrobatic number. The screen attraction is Ben Turpin in Mack Sennett’s five-reel burj lesque “The Shreik of Araby,” a takeoff on Rudolph Valentino's famous love thriller. The usual short reel are included in the program. Industrial work in the State claimed forty lives in July, as compared with twenty-two in June, a report today by Miss Helen E. Troutman, statistician for the State industrial board, shows. Seventy-seven dismemberments resulted from 6,005 accidents during July. Eighty-eight cases were children 16 years ojd or less. The automobile industry, while not causing any deaths, was responsible for ten dismemberments in 403 accidents. Two dismemberments and six fatalities occurred In 446 coal mining accidents. Iron and steel Industries caused 205 accidents, four dismemberments* and two fatalities. Persons temporarily placed out of employment by accidents numbered 4.480. ‘MISSING’WOMAN AT HOME Letter to Police Claims Mabel Sheats Is With Mother. A report that Miss Mabel Sheets, 23, was missing, was untrue, according to a letter received by police today, signed “Mabel's • mother." The letter states Miss Sheats was home with her mother at* 524 W. Attorneys for the Mansfield Engineering Cos. demanded Wednesday that the board of works make formal demand on State authorities for proper cooperation and de livery of cores taken from the paving. BOXING MATCHES POSTPONED UPON OFFICJALORDERS Governor Believes Bouts Disrespectful to Memory of Late President. Upon advice of Mayor Shank, Revelry Howard, colored promoter of a boxing exhibition between Tut Jackson and Jack Leslie, both colored, at Tomlinson hall tonight, today announced the bout has been postponed until Monday evening. The mayor instructed Howard not to hold the fight tonight, after Gov ernor McCray told the mayor he did not believe the bout should be held with the late President unburied. Firpo Bout Aug. 17 The Governor late Wednesday ordered Sheriff George Snider to atop the bout scheduled for Wednesday night between Luis Angel Firpo and Joe Downey at the Hoosier Motor Speedway, Thirty-Eighth St. and Pendleton Pike, after the Rotary and Kiwanls Clubs of Rushville, Ind, had telegraphed they did not believe the bout should be permitted before the Harding funeral rites. Jack Druley, promoter of the FirpoDowney bout, announced that he was In agreement with the Governor's at titude and that the bout would be held Aug 17. Firpo left the city at midnight, after signing an agreement for the new date. Hundreds Turned Away Sheriff Snider and deputies, at the Hoosier Speedway Wednesday night, Informed hundreds of motorists who had not heard the bout was called off of the fact. Many parties had come from far corners of the State and from surrounding State*. Had Mayor Shank not caused postponement of the Jackson-Leslle affair. Sheriff Snider said he would have stopped It. . ......... ■ ■■ BUSINESS HOUSES BURN Five Buildings Razed In Disastrous Fire at Bedford. Bv United Press BEDFORD, Ind.. Aug. 10.—Fire of unknown origin today destroyed five j one-story frame business buildings. The fire was discovered In the rear j of a resaurant.
