HARDY SWIMMER SPANSLAKE ERIE Makes 30 Miles In 21 Hours, 15 Minutes —Launch Safe. United Press LORAIN, Ohio, Aug- 2.—Corbis Walker, the first man to swim across Lake Erie, ate a hearty breakfast and went to bed after completion of his long swim. Walker had been in the water 21 hours and 15 minutes. He swam the 30 miles from Point Pelee to Lorain. •‘1 might have gone further If necessary,” Walker said. Tbe swimmer took off 20 pounds weighing 176 when he plunged into the lake and 156 when he cams ashore here. Lumps of sugar thrown over tnQ side3 of row boats were Walker’s only nourishment. The gasoline launch Argus reported missing after following Walker part of the way arived safely toady. The Argus was delayed by engine trouble and a heavy fog.
