SECRET SPRINGS BAR ENTRANCE TO CACHESOFBOOZE Two Men Arrested in Raid — Third Promises to Surrender, Two of the most cleverly concealed liquor caches discovered by police here since the prohibition amendment was passed were found in the apartment of William Howard, colored, 507*4 Indiana Ave„ early today, according to police. Lieutenant Corrigan, Sergeant Wilson and Patrolmen Hodges, Gibbons, Nordlow and Aulls raided the place. One cache was in the wall supporting a skylight over one of the rooms, police said. To open the section of the wall it was necessary to climb on to a step ladder and pull a trigger hidden near the ceiling. In this place were eleven empty one-gallon bottles which had contained white mule whisky, three full quarts of Gordon gin and one empty quart bottle, officers 6aid. The other cache was in the wall of the front room, behind a double door frame. Pulling a trigger in the hallway released a heavy spring lock and the double-door check between two doors in the front room dropped. This exposed six shelves, on which police said they found ten quarts cf white mule whisky and several empty quart bottles. While the search was on, Howard escaped, according to officers. The police arrested two roomers, Irvin Shanley, 35, colored, and Robert Watson, 35, colored, Watson gave his address as 306 W. Vermont St. A locked safe containing a large sum of money was in the Howard appartment. Howard sent the police word he would surrender when his attorney had arranged for a bondsman, police said. The messenger was told to inform Howard thdt if he did not surrender, officers would move the safe and all his furniture to police headquarters. Collision Injures Two.
