INMATES OF STATE INSTITUTION VARY LITTLEEACH YEAR Report Shows Number Confined jn 1921, 1922 and 1923 About Same, Slight annual variation In the total number of persona confined in State institutions is shown in the Indiana bulletin of charities and correction, issued today by the board of State charities. During the last three years the total number of inmates on March 31 each year is shown: 1921. 13,051: 1922, 13.890; 1923, 18,878. Os the 1923 total. 8,406 were males and 6,472 were females. During the six months ending March 31, 1923. 4.()4 inmates were received and 3.960 were discharged. For the care of these inmates. 2.126 employes were required. Expenses Steady Similarly, slight variation is shown In the total expenses of caring for the Inmates, although a larger per capita variation has existed. The expense figures follow: 1921. total $2,172.426.45. per capita, $181.90: 1922. total $2,092,074.98, per capita, $161.92: 1928, total $2,157,728.84; per capita $165.22. Including construction work, total expenses for the fiscal year were $3,121,139.26. 1.412 in State Prison Os the S.S3O persons lodged in charitable institutions, 5,718 were in institutions for treatment of insanity. Educational institutions housed 438 persons and correctional institutions hold 3,980. The State prison claims the largest number of inmates in correctional institutions, 1.412. Accompanying the bulletin is the thirty-third annual report of the board for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 1922. which has been submitted to overnor McCray. MRS. i 0. OLSEN'S FUNERALSATUROAY Wife of insurance Man Dies After Short illness, Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret M. Olsen, 27, wife of Rudolph O. Olsen, claim adjuster for the Indiana Mutual Casualty Company, woh died at her home, 3548 Evergreen Ave., Wednesday. 1 p. m., after a brief Illness, will be held Saturday 10 a. m. at the home. Burial will be in Crown Hill carnetery. The Rev. George S. Henninger, pastor of the E. Tenth St. Methodist Episcopal church, will be In charge. Due to the illness of the deceased s mother, Mrs. George TV. Pein, the services will be private. Mrs. Olsen was bom in Indianapolis. She was a graduate of Shortridge High School and of the'lndianapolis Conservatory of Music. She was prominent in the work of the Order of the Eastern Star and was well known throuhout the State. Mrs. Olsen Is survived by her husband. and parents, *hree brothers. Robert Pein of Columbus. Ohio; John Pein and William Pein of Indianapolis; and one sister, Mrs. Jeanette Bales of Indianapolis.
PICK RAINBOW OFFICERS Marion County to Send 110 Delegates to Veteran Convention. Plans for sending more than 100 delegates to the next annual convention of the Rainbow Division Veteran’s Association at Columbia, S. C., were being considered today by local members of the organization. At a meeting Wednesday night the following officers were chosen to head the Marion County chapter for the coming year: Byron C. Young, president; Paul W. Milllkin, vice president; Roy E. Murphy, secretary, and H. E. Cook, treasurer. I„id Held as Bicycle Thief Theodore Martin, 14,0f 227 N. Highland Ave., was under arrest today on a charge of grand larseny. Martin was arrested when he attempted to sell a bicycle at Hoffman’s bicycle shop, In the 900 block on W. Washington St. The wheel, It is alleged, was stolen from Riverside bat'nbeach Wednesday. Wife and Child Missing Bert Stevenson of Vera, Fla., requested the Indianapolis police today to search for his wife and 3-year-o’d son. He said Laura Belle Stevenson, his wife, took the child from his home in Vera and may be in Indianapolis. The child, he said, had been given Aim by a court order.

Local contingents of citizens who will take part in the one-month course of military training at Camp Knox, Kentucky, will leave Indianapolis Friday on two special trains, one departing at 7.45 o’clock in the morning and the second at 11:45, each arriving about six hours later. The second train will be for men outside of Marion County. The fare will be $6.32, which will be refunded when the candidates reach camp. All other expenses are paid by the government. ILLNESS FATAL TO WOMAN ATTORNEY Rites Saturday for Mrs, Olive Maholm, The funeral of Mrs. Olive Maholm, 44, who died at the residence, 3502 E. Tenth St., Wednesday night following an attack of heart trouble, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the home- Burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery. Mrs. Maholm was the wife of T. Ernest Maholm, attorney. She was bom in Marion County. She and her husband attended school together. The yhad been married twenty-seven years. She waa a member of the Marion County bar. Her husband’s sister, Mrs, Myrtle Winnings of Castleton, died two weeks ago. Mrs- Maholm Is survived by the husband and her mother, Mrs. Virginia Hilcox.
