BANANA, NOT AN jIPPLE, WAS ADAM’S DOWNFALL IN EDEN If First Parents Had Only Learned Popular Song of Today, By Times Special WASHINGTON*. July 25.—“ Yes. we have no bananas!” If Adam and Eve had only learned to sing this during their big snakecharming act iin the Eden summer garden, ipstead of waiting several thousand years for somebody to sing it in the New York Winter Garden, the world might have been spared a lot of trouble. For it was a banana and not an apple that tempted Eve, the National Geographic Society reported today, whether you believe it or not. “A legend among eastern Christians asserts that it (the bananal tad a prominent place in the Garden of Eden," cays the serious bulletin, “and that it was a banana and not an appple that Eve ate in her search for knowledge. Botanists were perhaps unconsciously influenced by this legend, for they named the two important species of the fruit Musca paridisiaea and Musca sapientium—Fruit tof Paradise and Fruit of Knowledge.” | If Eve, when the brazen serpent - tempted her toward the fruit diet, had only looked him squarely in the eye and sung: “Yes, we have no bananas: We have no Musca paridiaca today!" FACES BLACKMAIL CHARGE Maitlen Says He Will Plead Guilty of Receiving SI,OOO. By Vnited Press MUNCIE, Ind., July 25.—Two affl davits specifically charging blackmail were filed in Circuit Court here today against Edward H. Mailen, arrested Saturday after he had picked up a confessed to sending similar letters package deposited at the public library which he thought contained SSOO in currency, left there by Ernest Loeb, a Lafayette merchant. Maitlen, in his confession, admitted that a year ago he had received SI,OOO frcm Loeb after sending him a blackmail letter, and the attempt to get a second payment was his undoing.
