‘CLEAN-UP’ SQUADS ARREST 130 IN NET SPREADOVER CITY One Hundred Fourteen Men and Sixteen Women Held by Police, ' . One hundred and fourteen men and sixteen women were arrested on various charges during the week end. Fourteen men and two women will answer charges of operating a blind tiger In city court today. • Thirty-six men are charged with drunkenness and four women are held on a similar charge. Thirteen men are charged with violating the gambling laws. While searching for- liquor. Sergeant Cummings and a squad found an alleged craps game In the basement of the gasoline filling station of Lawrence Leppert, 1501 W. Washington 9t. Eight men were arrested on charges of gaming and visiting. Leppert wajs arrested on charges of keeping a gambling house and keeping a blind tiger. Police say they found white mule. ' Liquor caused arrest of Mike Christ, proprietor of a poolroom at 832 S. Meridian St. Three men In tile poolroom were arrested on a charge of vagrancy. Fred Goodwin. No. 5, 416 W. Washington St., was arrested on charge of operating a blind tiger. DR. JOHN H. BLOOfTDIES SUDDENLY AT HOME HERE Dentist Succumbs to Cerebral Hemorrhage. Dr. John H. Bloor, 59, 2719 College Ave., a dentist in Indianapolis for more than twenty years, died suddenly at his home Sunday night. Death was due to cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Dr. Bloor was born in Mansfield, Ohio, and came to Indiana twenty-nine years ago. He practiced dentistry in Muncie nine years before he came to Indianapolis. ' He is survived by his widow and one daughter, his mother, a brother and sister df Mansfield, Ohio, and another sister in Omaha, Neb.
CAMPAIGN IS EXTENDED Red Cross to Gi4fe Swimming Instruction This Week. , The Red Cross swimming campaign, which officially closed Saturday, will be continued this week at Ringgold and Willard pools, beginning Tuesday, Miss Helen Cruse, director or the Red Cross life saving corps, an-, nounced today. Miss Frances T. Brown, formerly of Ohio Wesleyan University, will be in charge at the Willard pool, and Mrs. Mae McDowell Grainger at the Ringgold pool. Children holding Red Cross cards who did not receive the full course of six lessons last week may join the classes. Instruction will be from 1:30 to 6 p. m. SCHMiDT FtINERAL TODAY Assistant Manager of Polar Ice and Fuel Company- Ends Life. Funeral services for Benjamin F. Schmidt, 50, assistant general manager of the Polar Ice and Fuel Company, who committed suicide Saturday morning by jumping in White River, were to be held at the resilience, 035 W. Thirty-First St., at 3 p. m. today. Funeral and burial will be private. s Fear of insanity following a nervous breakdown, caused Schmidt to take his life, according to a note he left in his hat on the bank. His body was found near Falrview. FALLS DEAD ON STREET Virgil Lancaster Is Victim of Heart Trouble. Virgil Lancaster, 39, colored, 741 W. Twelfth St., fell dead on the sidewalk at Blackford and New York Sts. .^oday, Lancaster’s wife told police her husband had suffered from heart disease for some time. The coroner was notified. Lancaster’s body was removed to the city morgue. HE LEFT IN A BIG HURRY Husband TeDs Police He Struck Wife Insulter. Police do not know who William Nunn, 412 S. Missouri St„ walloped, but they have his word that he handed someone a "beauty,” Motor Policemen Cooney and Harms say. They said Nunn told them he struck the man after he had insulted Mrs. Nunn. The man left in a hurry HEROIC WOMAN RECOVERS Mrs. Sidney Aughinbaugh Saves Son From Fireworks Blaze. Mrs. Sidney Aughinbaugh, SWO N. Illinois St., is improving at home from burns sustained when she saved her son from flames caused by fireworks. Sidney Jr., according to the story told police and' firemen, was playing with supposedly harmless fireworks. When he started to wash his hands in gasoline it ignited. Mrs. Aughingaugh rescued him. Foltnd Dead in Bed John Langford, colored, 65, 652*4 Eddy St., was found dead in his room after Hattie Swain, his landlady, reported to police that he had been missing a week. Dr. C.
