WIFE ACCUSED OF SHQOTINGHUSBAND Woman Claims Self-Defense in Gun Affray. As the result of a bullet wound. Matt Lewis, 31, of 205 Bright St., was In a serious condition today at the city hospital. Nona Lewis, 28, his wife, 971% W. Washington St., was under arrest dn a charge of assault and battery with intent to kill. Lewis and his wife had been separated seven months. Lewis, according to his wife, called at the home at 8 p. m. Thursday and informed her that he was going to stack the furniture When she objected, she alleged he choked her. Breaking pway, she ran into the next room and, seizing a revolver, fired two shots as her husband pursued her, she told police. The first shot missed, but the second hit Lewis low in the abdomen. Lewis denied he choked or struck hia wife. Laura Woodson, 2 Plumb St., who was In the house before the shooting, said Le ’is did not touch his wife, but cursed ;r, according to police. Roomers at the West Washington St. house told a similar story. Dempsey Allman, who rooms at the home of Mrs- Lewis, said he had been with Lewis all day and that Lewis had been drinking, according to officers. WIFE ACCUSES FARMER Divorce Suit Alleges Man Refused to Aid Woman in Fire. Virling H. Huff, truck farmer on the Hanna Rd., refused to buy her any clothes and often charged her 25 cents for small services, such as taking her to the interurban line by horse and buggy, Mrs. Eleanor Huff charges in a suit for divorce filed in Superior Court. He refused to help her from their burning home as she staggered down the hall, she alleges. She made money keeping chickens, she said. She asks a third of his property.
