BRITISH VETERANS THANKAMERICANS Owsley Gets Letter From Sir Douglas Haig, Alvin Owsley, national commnader of the American Legion, has received a letter from Sir Douglas Haig. British commander during the World War, thanking him for a message to the recent convention of the British Legion from the American organization, delivered by Hanford MacNider, of Mason City, lowa, it was announced at headquarters here today. “It seemed to me that your splendid words found an echo in the hearts of every one present,” the letter stated. “To your wish, ‘Let us be comrades in peace,’ I hasten to assure you that that is the sincere wish of every member of the British Legion. I hope that by some means we English-speaking ex-service men may become more closely affiliated. Please convey to your colleagues of the American Legion the heart-felt thanks of the British Legion for your assurance of fellowship, which we cordially reciprocate.” The legion was represented at the convention of British veterans by MacNider and Milton J. Foreman. Chicago, past national commanders. POLICE HUNT ASSAILANT Woman, Cut, Says She Fell on Lamp Chimney. Mrs. Virginia Buckner. 28. colored. Alvord St., suffered severe cuts on the left hip and one the left,hand today. She told police she fell on a lamp chimney.
