Further reports from Indiana counties received today by the Purdue University Agricultural Extension Department, “Show a serious farm labor shortage, according to G. I. Christie, director. In response to this condition, word is being from many business organizations over the State offering to provide help for the harvest. “An uncertainty hangs over the present wheat crop on account of the extreme heat of the last week which is ripening the grain too rapidly,” Christie said.

M’CRAY URGES FARM AID Business Men Asked to Devote Half Time in Fields, Pointing out the world’s need for every bushel of wheat grown this year, and appealing to business men to devote half of their time to harvesting grain, Governor McCray has broadcast his second word in behalf of farmers this year. Laborers have been asked to accept lower wages than $6 and $7, said to be demanded in some places during the harvest. McCray has asked G. I. Christie of Purdue to compile a survey of fara needs to concentrate labor in dlstrlqH where the wheat yield will be heaviest and where losses of grain are most likely.
