Town Band to Practice Outside City Limits

r By WALTER D. HICKMAN. CHARLES WITHERS, town marshal, editor of the weekly paper, vjnanager of the “opery house,” bill poster, orchestra leader and several other Important positions in the village, announces that the town band will not hold its summer practice in town, but will go out into the country so nobody will be -disturbed. This announcement is one of the many made by Withers during "For Pity’s Sake,” a travesty on the oldtime melodrama, at the Palace this •week. It reminds one of the good old 10, 20 and 30-cent days. Some of the effects, such as the limited express, would not make David Belasco jealous. There is a lot of hoakum to this act, but it is different. It handed me several good laughs. Maurice Golden, with the aid of two dancers, presents a movie dance idea. Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, Harold Lloyd, Theda Bara and Mae Murray are impersonated In dances. Nice idea. Well done. Florence Hobson admits that she was once a vampire, but the flapper has stolen her material. “So now I am making a poor but honest living playing the piano,” she states. She realizes the comedy idea in song. Pleasing. Moore and Kendal appear in chatter concerning Adam, Eve, the costumes of the era and other things. Rather tiresome in spots. Lowe and Stella sing “Don’t Do That” and other songs. The woman swears an appropriate summer cos'tume. Reo and Helmar open the bill with a gymnastic offering. The movie feature is “All the Brothers Were Valiant” with Lon Chaney. At the Palace today, Saturday and Sunday. -|. -IMayo in “First Degree” on View at the Isis The new movie offering at the Isis today features Frank Mayo in “The First Degree.” It is dramatic. The bill includes Leo Maloney in “When Fighting Is Necessary.” Other attractions on view today in-
